Default Free Lunch at Panera Bread

My dead aunt who never lived here received a free lunch invite sent to my house from United Health Care today. I called the number to have her removed and was transferred from one brain dead operator to another. Finally on the "FIFTH ONE" he said they would remove her name from the mailing list. One problem he didn't ask her name. I called United Health Care Corporate Office they said they didn't recognize the phone number and did a reverse look up on it. The customer service rep said it's probably a bait and switch scam. To sell you an Advantage Plan.I recommend you buy your own lunch.

If we took advantage of every free lunch offer we get every week in the mail we wouldn't have to buy food for a year. Some of it looks pretty good too. Of course they are trying to sell you something because "there ain't no free lunch!" but if you have the power of "NO" you can get lots of free food with a little bit of wasted personal time. Just toss it in the garbage and don't waste your time trying to get it removed. My father passed 3 years ago and I keep getting similar offers from him.

If it is from a reputable company can be interesting to go.

Went to one the other night had was an excellent learning experience and a delicious dinner.

Just dont sign anything unless you are sure you want what they are selling. and the price is reasonable

Around 15 years ago we attended a free gourmet dinner seminar at the local "great food, but not exotic gourmet stuff" place.

The food was good, not great, and they wouldn't let us eat until after the seminar, which they prolonged til almost 9pm. By the time the food came out, the hot stuff had been kept under heating lamps for almost 45 minutes, and the salads had started to wilt in the bowls.

My suggestion, if you really WANT that free lunch:

Have a snack before you go, enough to tide you over for at least 2 hours. Also bring a package of crackers "just in case."

Bring a book, or load up a crossword app on your cell phone so you have something to do while you're waiting for them to finish pushing whatever product they're trying to push on you.

When it's time to fill in the post card (they come around and pick it up from you personally, so you have to do SOMETHING with it)...fill it in with obviously fake information. Like for your social security number it'd be 987-65-4321 or try for some variation of the fibonacci sequence in the phone number section. Give a false name, like Mick E. Mauz or Mr. E. Mole or Juan-Carlo Roberto Miguel de Silva Ruiz, Junior, Bitsy Heffernenstinbergersmith, or similar.

Not our experience at all. We have been to two of them here.

One started at 5 the other at 4. Both talks lasted about an hour and food served immediately thereafter.

On one we told them that we did not agree with how they would recommend investing our money and had no interest in further discussion and filled out their card accordingly. No pressure at all. Dinner was steak Diane and was very good.

The one earlier this week was at the Arnold Palmer CC and dinner was excellent. A very good presentation and will probably arrange a follow up meeting with them in a couple of weeks.

So in my experience it can be worth our time.

But he'll be able to get out of the house before it burns down. Worth every penny.

True story and several months later he knocked on my door and asked if I had an extra 9 volt battery. He was the nicest guy..... too nice probably. I do miss him.

Wow. By my calculation, he overpaid for the smoke detectors by $2,256.40. I hope the food was worth that much.

I know more than one person that did the same thing. And I don't think the food and/or detectors together were worth close to that. Call it "High pressure scare tactics"?

There is NO free lunch.

If it sounds way too good to be true, it isn't something you should attend.

Someone pays for everything and they probably have an agenda or something to sell you.

Don't be taken in. WHY WASTE your time??? I HATE to be given a sales pitch...From a salesman or a pastor or a politician.
