Default Fresh Seafood?

Surely there is someplace near TV with "real" fresh seafood. We are new to the area so we need any advice. Thanks

to TOTV. That's a good first question! I'd be interested in the whereabouts of a freshly caught seafood market myself.

Our first shopping experience was today at Sweet Bay. I had read about it...Florida chain from Tampa. Large seafood section. Must be fresh we assumed.

We asked what was freshest, she said the tilapia. We like it so we looked. It was fresh...from Columbia...and I don't think it was Columbia Missouri, lol. I asked about local fresh...she said you had to go to the coast for that. I thought Tampa was on the coast. Perhaps it's to far to drive.

My parting comment....never buy from a truck that says "Fresh Seafood" with Kansas tags.

Seriously, there was a thread about two months ago about a guy who came with a truck every morning from somewhere nearby where he had a store and everyone raved about it. You might try searching for that thread.

Talk of The Villages - Search Results
is the result of a search of all forums for Lighthouse Seafood - located on rt 466 between morse blvd and rolling acre rd - in a lot between a strip mall and fruit stand.

fresh seafood is sold from a cooler truck under a canopy. folks here on totv have reported favorably on their purchases. i believe the truck only comes on weekends - but those interested can read for themselves.

hope this helps.

I'll second on Lighthouse. We've gotten some of their fresh seafood and have enjoyed it. In some cases you might pay a little more than at the grocery stores, but you get what you pay for.

They are at the 466 location on Thursday - Monday from 1PM to 6:30PM. In general they carry fresh fish, crab claws, shrimp, blue crab, oysters, clams, fresh sea scallops, frozed sea food, Harris Ranch beef and prepared homemade items.

They're out of Lake Mary and have you can call ahead for special orders 407-271-3432.

Lighthouse Seafood - Lake Mary, FL (Yelp site includes 3 reviews)

BTW, I have no connection with Lighthouse Seafood nor do I even know them. I'm just providing info for those who might be interested.

The fish from Lighthouse Seafoods is great. The fish is fresh and local, well, except for the Scottish salmon when that's available. Salmon from Scotland is delicious, my favorite!

You can buy on Thursday through Sunday....from approximately 1pm until 5 or so. If you arrive early, you may be able to buy a key lime pie....they are made by the owner's mother and they are absolutely wonderful!

Lighthouse does have a store in Lake Mary if you want to take a ride....

Thanks for the information. We have seen the sign but wondered if it was really fresh. Will give it a try.

Sadly we had more fresh seafood avaible in the midwest (where they flew in fresh fish daily) than we have found here. We have gone to Lighthouse twice and were very disappointed. Both times we found the food to be mostly fried and quite greasy.

LVmypug2,
Are we talking about two different places??? There is a Lighthouse seafood Restaurant in LSL, but I think everyone else is talking about the Lighthouse seafood that is based out of Lake Mary with a freezer truck that is on 466 and Rolling Acres.

The Lighthouse Restaurant in LSL does have a lot of fried food. We went there on Friday evening and took a look at the menu and noticed that most stuff is fried. Way too fattening for us, but probably tasty. We opted not to eat there.

Lighthouse seafood is not the same as Lighthouse Bar and Grill on Lake Sumter. Lighthouse seafood sells fresh seafood next to the fruit stand on 466 east of Morse.

They have a baked fish dinner that is very good.
