Since we're not TVers (but soon), someone in my city asked me tonight what % of TVers are full-time residents (I told him the phrase is Frogs). He caught me off-guard with that question.
So I told him I'd do a poll on TOTV, so I can give him a decent answer. So... "What do you think the % of TV residents live there year-around, and can proudly declare themselves as Frogs (there till they croak)?" Gene & Kathy, OH Future Frogs |

We became frogs May 15 this year, after coming down every few months for a year after building our home. Lovin' every minute too!

By the impact of "In Season" residents I would guess around 50%.

My wife and I never even considered being seasonal at The Villages. We moved to Village of Glenbrook 2 years ago from Silver Spring, MD and just love it here. Never regretted moving.

On my street, just about every other house is a snowbird or snowflake house.

Think I heard it to be about 60,000 out of the 80,000 were FROGS. It is so quiet in the summer that many of those folks must go somewhere. Do love the summers.................
All of Nature's signs point to an early winter Robins left early, squirrels storing nuts early etc. Gonna have to check the almanac.....whoa... wait... NO more winters for us as WE becone FROGS in 3 weeks ![]()

In our neighborhood I would estimate about 80% are frogs. However, most take longer vacations in the summer visiting families up north or trips to cooler places- Alaska etc. I too love it here in the summer.

I'm guessing the % of FROGS is going up due to the recession. It's expensive to maintain 2 houses, plus it's a pain in the neck. And, it's hard to maintain 2 social networks. This year (our first to be retired) we are spending about 4 months up north, but next year it will be briefer, maybe 2 visits for a few weeks each, we shall see. In future years, maybe 1 shorter visit.
I do think as people get more entrenched socially in TV, you miss the place "up north" less and less. And family and friends come to visit you as there's a lot to do around here. For your kids and grandkids, it's an inexpensive vacation, which is great. I've met a lot of people who do plan a summer vacation up north, visiting friends and families, and maybe even renting a place on a lake for a couple of weeks. I think if you already have a lake/mountain house up north, would be great to do summers there, but possibly boring if you haven't already established that pattern. At least if you are like most Villagers and were attracted to TV because you are a joiner/doer. I could probably enjoy about 2 weeks at a lake or mountain retreat, but that's me. That's if you were renting a place. If you own a place you probably spend a lot of time on maintenance/improvements, etc., and hosting weekend guests. I think I would like that in the right location, but it's not financially feasible for us. In our case, Ohioboy's son is buying the house up north, and part of the deal is he gets us for part of the summer. We all understand this could change as life happens, and that's ok. |
