Default Garage Door Security

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saw this on YouTube. A good prevention would be to use tie wraps and tie the release shut. This way you would have to cut them loose to release the lever in the event of a power failure and you needed to open it manually. Another good idea is to always lock the door coming into your house from the garage. Of course they can take everything in your garage though.

I don't have a windowed door so it wouldn't be as easy to hook the lever and the lever on my door slants toward the door and not away from it so would be much, much harder to hook. I'm guessing I'm OK. Nice post thought. Check those doors!!

Agree. I also have no windows. I checked out my setup and it would not be that easy to pop the lever.

It was after seeing this UTUBE that I decided NOT to have windows in my new garage in the house we are building.

Saw another one that worked. The thieves took 8 inch long pieces of 4X4, painted them white, angled the bottom at 45 degrees and went through a neighborhood right after dark and leaned them against the garage doors in one corner. People would come home, not see them, open the door, drive in then as they entered the house close the door. The door would come down, hit the piece of 4X4 then open again. The thieves would drive the the neighborhood a couple hours later and find several garage doors open and quietly clean out the garage. Usually they would be able to steal a car or two by finding the valet key in the glove box or owners manual as well. Inventive minds.
