Exclamation Who to call

I was recently hit from behind by an intoxicated golf cart driver. I did not know who to call when operating on the multi use paths in the villages. What law enforcement agency has jurisdiction on the paths?

Best to just call 911 and let them determine who’s jurisdiction you’re in. The Villages encompass several jurisdictions.

Call 911 but since nobody tested alcohol at time of accident would think guy gets off on that

Oh my oh my it’s a vehicle incident call 911. Same as if you were hit in a parking by a drunk driver they donor get a free pass. The police do not inforce speed limits on multimodal paths but can investigate accidents.

If no law enforcement was called, how do you know the person was drunk? Do you carry a breathalyzer in your cart?

Yeah, because it’s not possible to know if someone who reeks of alcohol, begs you not to call the cops and can’t stand up properly is drunk. He was probably coming home from church services.

Pretty obvious when someone is drunk, you don’t need a machine to tell you they are. I’m sure the police to do make the charge stick.

Let me help you, this was a tongue in cheek comment for a portrait of drunken characteristics observed by sober people over the years. Of course, there may be younger people who have never witnessed a drunk in public. I’ve been around long enough to have seen a lot.

“Sarcasm Sheldon” , given your stated age group, one might not understand the Sheldon sign

take out your cell phone, take pics, bring them to your local pd to process.
Best you'll get is an investigator from the pd to inquire at the " offenders" residence.
May scare him/ her straight, or not.

You all are so funny. The OP asked a reasonable question, and within a few posts you're fighting among yourself about how you can tell if someone is drunk or not.

Evidently the local police (call 911) do have jurisdiction over the multimodal paths. They have issued DUIs for people on the paths (and I know of one local woman jailed for said offense) AND yes they can, and do (not as often as in past) issue tickets for those going over 20mph on the multi modal paths. It becomes an expensive felony offense if I remember the big hub but last time someone was caught doing so.

I would ALWAYS call 911 when there is an accident, injury, DUI etc. they will steer you in right direction and you will have documented that you addressed issue. Also, I would take photo of cart and driver if on multi modal in case they take off.

Hopefully you weren’t hit hard enough to be injured.
