These people put this pile out on a Tuesday, now the crows are picking the bags open.

So here's some input on plastic bags and timing. Let's say you're leaving for a two-month trip on a Tuesday, and your trash pickup isn't until Thursday. Yes you can give your key to a neighbor so they can go into your house and take your garbage out for you. You can totally do that if you want. But that's only good if a) you have a friendly enough relationship with your neighbor to do that and b) your neighbor is around to do that. If either of these two things is false, you'll need to get that trash out on Tuesday when you leave, or you'll be dealing with trash, plus bugs, plus mold, plus maggots, plus ungodly stench and the need to fumigate, when you get back from your trip.

If you put it out early, you risk being scolded by Community Standards but by the time they get a chance to tell you about it, the trash folks will already have come and taken your trash on trash day.

If you put it out early in plastic bags, you risk the vermin and vultures and crows picking the bags open and strewing trash all over your yard, the yards of your neighbors, and the street.

If you put it out early in a can, you risk the trash guy taking the can along with the garbage. But if they're nice folks and you line the garbage can and tie the bag inside it before you leave, that risk is reduced to nearly zero.

The only downside to the can thing, is that you STILL need a neighbor to move the can back around the back of the house, or under the car port, or wherever is appropriate for that property.

Personally I think the risks vs. rewards on the can are more beneficial to all, than the risks vs. rewards to plastic, in the situation of people just plain not being available on trash day.

Huh? It’s my understanding that trash cans are not allowed. We put our trash out after dark the night before to avoid bird problems, etc. This seems to work for us. Our trash is picked up very early in the a.m. also.

I would just take Tuesday's trash to the mail station and put it in the garbage there that you're not supposed to put the junk mail in....

Thanks for reminding everyone the rules.

I've been here for 12 years and never had plastic bags broken into by critters.
Also I use Aldi's boxes for my newspapers and tape the top so the papers don't blow away

You can cut handles into the sides to make it easier for the trash guys, and if you put your bag on top it keeps out the water.

All household waste should be placed in a sealed
tall kitchen trash bag or 20-30 gallon trash bag (any
color). All materials can be placed in the same bag,
no need to sort! The trash bags should be placed
together at the end of your driveway, no garbage
cans/bins are allowed (they will be disposed of
with household waste). Each bag should weigh no
more than forty (40) pounds. Bags must be placed
for collection before 6:00 a.m. on your collection
day or the night before (no sooner than 5:00 p.m.)
Collection times may vary. Deed Restrictions do not
allow leaving trash out on undesignated days. Wrap
broken glass or other sharp objects in newspaper
and place them where they cannot cause injury.
For a list of holidays that may affect your normal
collection day, please visit DistrictGov.org.

If you would like to see the above guidelines changed, you are always invited to attend a NSCUDD monthly meeting to ask questions and or make comments/suggestions. I am on the board and would welcome you to the meeting!

If your trash day is Thursday then your other trash day is Monday. If I was leaving on Tuesday I would plan ahead to make as little trash as possible between trash pickup and when I left. Then, I would take that small amount of trash with me and find a proper receptacle along the way (usually at a gas station). Heck, start the vacation early and eat out on Monday.

In the historic section we are allowed to put out garbage cans from what I understand. I try to only do bags for trash myself.

In 18 years we have had perhaps one garbage bag bird attack

Same for us. Garbage pickup can be anywhere from before dawn to the middle of the afternoon. I always use the big plastic bags and haven't had problems with critters but a couple of people on our block who put their trash out in 13-gallon bags have had them raided by crows.

We always freeze the perishable stuff and put it in the bag just before we put it out.

More than once, I've been out in the street & my front yard picking up wet flattened amazon boxes, small trash bags, water bottles, etc that had blown down wind from neighboring properties on trash day.
How unsightly & inconvenient is that to deal with?

I'd suspect a heavy trash can wouldn't be nearly as prone to 'relocate' its contents all over the neighborhood, but I understand the regs against them.

I do wish the The Villages has a centralized resident disposal area for excess trash/large items to be dropped off. It absolutely would make for a cleaner village. In the newly constructed villages, with people moving in, contractors still around, people unpacking, getting new appliances, landscaping being set up, etc .I've literally seen 6ft tall mounds of trash in driveways & yards, sitting out for days waiting for trash pick up...looked great! :/
I live here full time and I have never once seen any trash blown down the street. This is the easiest place I have lived for trash pick up.

It is unlawful to prohibit hanging clothes on clotheslines. It also puts the Developer as basically the boss - though the Developer gave all that up to the County years ago. The Developer no longer has the right to "control all peddling, soliciting, selling, delivery and vehicular traffic within the Subdivision." (2.14). In 2.12, owners are supposed to notify the Developer when they'll be away for more than 7 days, and let them know when they're planning on coming back. If you were to call the "Developer" they'd ask wth you're talking about.

Garbage in this part of the Villages is contained as proscribed by Waste Management, not the Developer.

The deed restriction also specifies that the lots are occupied by perma-mobile homes, which must be skirted in a uniform manner. However many homes here are stick-built, or wood frame or block and stucco. Many of them were built *by the developer* after the deed restrictions were written.

2.21: No "FOR SALE" sign of any type will be permitted to be displayed on anyone's individual lot of Mobile Home.

but if you don't HAVE a mobile home on that property, if that home is a site-built home, and you want to sell it, which deed restriction will you be violating by putting a sign on that non-Mobile home? The one about no signs? Or the one about requiring a skirt on the mobile home that doesn't exist on your property?

In addition - when The Villages Sales department offers one of these homes for re-sale, they absolutely do put a sign on the home. They also put signs out front when there's an Open House. The deed restrictions don't make exceptions for "the Developer" in this particular deed restriction.

In section 6, it specifies that you're not allowed to sell or transfer your property without getting written approval from the Developer. Pretty sure that hasn't been a thing in at least a couple of decades. I have never heard of any property here in the Historic Section owned by anyone who had to ask permission from the Developer to sell their house. Nor anyone who has had the Developer come by and say "hey - you didn't ask to sell the house, denied!"

Interesting that this document has an expiration date, which is January 1, 2020. It'd automatically be renewed for 10 years unless the majority owners choose otherwise.
