Default Garmin GPS Upgrade Info

I just upgraded my Garmin Nuvi 750 and Map Source program to the latest version of City Navigator North America NT 2010. It works great and now includes a lot of the new Villages on the south side. Hadley and Amelia are now included along with Hemingway and Duval. Everything from Colony Plaza to Buena Vista.

Nothing is shown across 466a as yet.

If anyone is interested to find out if a specific street is in this update just send me a PM (private message) and I will try and check it out. No need for and exact address just the street name should be fine.

The Garmin update compares very close to my last paper map of TV that I purchased last December.

Hawkwind, a bit off topic, but did you have any problems loading the new maps on to your Garmin? When I tried loading them from my computer on to mine, I'd get a message that there wasn't enough capacity on my Garmin to load them. Per their instructions, I deleted a bunch of uneeded things from the memory but still a no go. Thanks...

With the Garmin connected to the computer I used Windows Explorer to look at the files on the GPS. I then backed up all the files to my computer just in case. I then found a file called "gmapprom.???" that was almost 1 gig in size. That is the actual map file. I deleted that and then used MapInstall to add all the maps. I added all the US and Canada and had room to spare in my Nuvi 750. It took over an hour but had no problems.

I know that I am not able to upgrade my Garmin GPSMAP 76S hand held as it has been discontinued for a number of years and does not contain the memory that the newer units have.

What model are you trying to upgrade? What version of maps did you already have installed in the unit?

The Garmin web site has a page with an interactive map you can check before purchasing an upgrade. Click here to get the page, then click on the interactive map. Clicking on the location you want to examine will zoom and recenter the map. You will have to do that several time to get down to the street detail.

RVRoadie do you have the actual web address because when I click on your "here" it goes no where and the last time I updated I didn't get that kind of interactive map to view nor did I get the additional area in The Villages. Thanks !!

From the Garmin webpage:
"*The map viewer may show a different version than the product you receive."
I'm not getting a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Try this link and then use the zoom in and check the more detail box to see the area covered. If the link does not work copy and paste it into the URL block in your browser.

http://www8.garmin.com/cgi-bin/mapge...&rz=0&k=1&sc=1

Hope that works for you.
