Went through 4 gates today and there was not one single STOP SIGN (unless the gate was missing because someone broke it). Maybe in your area but not here or maybe your definition of a STOP SIGN is different than what I am used to seeing.

LOL, Not applying for a job so what does the job title matter? A "guard" doesn't necessarily mean POLICE GUARD carrying a gun with arrest powers it also means someone simply watching over a particular spot (like the gate) to protect (guard) it from someone crashing through or colliding with the person in the other lane.

-watch over in order to protect or control.
-protect against damage or harm.
-a person who keeps watch
-to take precautions (usually followed by against)

Despite his official "job title" he is still being a "guard". Tomato, tomahto .....
