Default Get together for Newbies Hosted by TV?

I am so enmeshed in TOTV and getting to Crispers...........which seems like is never gonna happen, that I have ignored the other welcome get together from The DEVELOPERS. Or am I just dreamin'?. Is there such a thing and has anyone attended and if so what's it like? Big group or what?

Gracie...Honey...you need to go lie down and put your feet up. You are getting delusional again dear.

Why would the developer have a newcomers welcome party? It would be a constant shindig as there are newcomers all the time.

Do you know of any town that does that? I think not.

TV is basically a privately owned town. We here at TOTV forget that everyone in TV are not party animals like all of us.

You are so funny.

Couple of things....

When we bought and were finally here (Nov 06), we were invited by The Villages to a breakfast social with other newbies at Lake Miona Rec Center. Don't know if this still happens.

Also, I believe the VHA sponsors a newcomers social once a month in the evening. Used to be at Canal St Rec Center.

So, Gracie, you are not imagining things.

The Villages Homeowners Association (VHA) hosts a monthly "Get Acquainted Social," or some sort of name like that. You are, of course, encouraged to join, but there's no great pressure.

The crowd will depend, of course, upon how many new folks have heard about the event.

The term "social" persuaded me that I'd have the opportunity to schmooze with other newbies, perhaps with a nice cool one in hand. That didn't happen (coffee and doughnut holes were offered afterwards!), but it gave a good chance to meet various folks from TV and surrounds. Sherrif Farmer and one of his deputies (a Villager) was there, people from the Election Office, a representative of SHINE (info for seniors with medical insurance issues - can't recall the proper name) and another from a Seniors Fighting Crime type group. Questions were asked and, for the most part, answered.

For a newbie, it was very helpful, even if not as much "fun" as I'd hoped! ;D

My first post but this is probably a good time to start.

I understand the newcomers program has changed a bit recently. However, there is "The Villages Hometown Social" at Lake Miona Reg. Rec. Ctr. tomorrow morning from 9:00 - 11:00. I received an invitation as part of my welcome packet when I arrived. These are currently held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. I also received a phone call from "Theresa at The Villages" this morning to confirm that I was aware of the event and would be attending.

The Villages Homeowners Association is having a Newcomers Orientation Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Canal Street Village Rec. Ctr. This meeting will have a number of speakers from the Sherriff's Dept., a local judge, the county clerk's office, Villages Regional Hospital, Lifelong Learning College, Citizens Emerg. Response Team, Seniors vs. Crime, Golf Cart Safety Clinic and Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders. These orientations are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Certainly you are encouraged to join VHA but it's not mandatory. I believe the cost is very nominal at about $12 for 2 years.

I hope this information is helpful to many of you.
