You don't have to "sue" your insurance company to get UM benefits just as you don't have to sue them to get damage to your car paid for.

Worse case scenario, you get killed by a UM. Few med bills. Happy recovering nothing?

Good luck!
First of all, I don't have Medicare Part B or D, I only have Part A. I have my Federal retiree insurance with Blue Cross. Who pays first is very complicated, but UM insurance is always sold as coverage for medical bills resulting from an accident. I don't need that, and will not pay a UM premium for it. I assume that my medical insurance company would require reimbursement from any UM claim that is approved, thereby reducing the total coverage amount. The only other thing that UM coverage would provide is a reimbursement for "pain and suffering". Are you saying the my insurance company will just send me a check for that without requiring proof or a lawsuit? In any event, I do not want to be involved in a lawsuit for pain and suffering. I will just self insure for pain and suffering.

I think if you reduced your liability coverage, you would not be able to buy an umbrella policy. You may want to check with State Farm and Allstate for auto insurance because they both offer liability limits of up to $1 million, which might allow you to cancel the umbrella policy. Some auto insurance companies will only sell you $250K in liability coverage.

You may be able to lower your premium by increasing your deductible. Sometimes if u have no claims in 3 years u will be ahead.

Be careful, a lot of insurance companies are pulling out of FL or cancelling the insurers coverage. At least you know The Villages Insurance will offer house insurance. Be hard to sell houses if no insurance was being offered.

Florida intensifies oversight of insurers after they cut disaster estimates. Today’s news.

Rates should be going lower. Not higher

So how does one be careful?

not buy from a carrier who will pull out of the market at some point in the future, which is unknown today?

not buy from a carrier who will go bankrupt in the future due to currently unforeseen events?

really, please explain how you are careful so that we know to what you are specifically referring

interesting. State Farm quote was almost $800 more than my latest renewal bill from Travelers (which went from just under $900 to $1450 for my upcoming July 1 renewal) for identical coverage. Allstate was almost $1000 MORE. This is for a 2/2 Colony built in 2009 with a new roof in 2014). Make sure the quotes you get are for IDENTICAL LINE BY LINE ITEM COVERAGE because most of the online quotes are missing a LOT as they just take basic info then toss out a number. My Travelers policy happens to be from T.V. Insurance but I haven't spoken with them since we moved in 6 years ago wrt HO insurance.

. Price increases also due to the increase of value of homes and rebuilding if needed heaven forbid. Homes have at least doubled in the last few years.

For this exact reason we left The Villages insurance. We found Lassiter-Ware Insurance Brokers. Offices Leesburg and Ocala and other surrounding areas. Their customer service is excellent. None of this waiting for a response in a few days as that is just ridiculous. Gina Rush is a top-notch agent at 800.845.8437 Ext 202.

the best way to avoid high premiums with Villages Ins. partners, is to switch to State Farm. this comes from personal experience.

Judging from the news, your house insurance will need to provide that coverage, the way Tezlas and a few other drivers are driving into homes lately. .

What was the reason? Allstate Agents also have independent companies they offer. Were you not offered a quote with one of those companies!
