Hello you lucky people in the Villages. I'm up here on Long Island New York and we have had a brutal 1-3 weeks with frigid weather. I know Global 'Warming' may be a misleading term but as the weather maps show the gulf stream has dipped way south so even Florida is having a cold snap. So my question for anyone who understands weather patterns, am I correct in my understanding that the weather is changing? I considered Florida 10 years ago but I didn't think I could stand the summer heat. So now with these new weather patterns maybe I should re-consider Florida once again. Thank you. Marvin

I have been here in Florida since 1996. It is very rarely cold for long. The three days lately or a bit more is rare. Has not happened here since 2010.
I did live in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Colorado, Utah and Nevada so I do know cold weather. Arizona can have some rather cold nights as well. |

Climate and weather are not the same thing Marvin. The current cold snap is weather. Overall FL is warming. Not at the alarmist rate, but by about 1 to 1.5 degrees over the last 20 years. All that being said, if you hated FL summer heat last year you likely will this year too with one caveat. You are likely changing as an individual at a higher rate than the climate. As we age, we tend to feel colder, so the heat may not seem so bad to you even if it's the same as previous years.
What you should do is maybe come down in the summer for a few weeks or a month. Rent a place and see it at its worst for you. Then you'll know from there if you should buy a place or maybe look to snowbird. Good luck sir! |

According to the Florida Climate Center, the average temp in Fl in 2025 was 72.3° And in 1948, it was, you guessed it, 72.3°. So much for "global warming" ![]() ![]() ![]() Temperature - Florida Climate Center |

A few extreme days, hot or cold can skew the annual averages in a planetary region. That does not necessarily equate to global climate. It is a regional weather anomaly.

We cannot control the weather, no matter how much money is passed around.

Climate is cyclical and we learn to adapt.

There was a big increase around 2015 which supports a claim of a 1 to 1.5 increase in the last 20 years. However, the data shows a much more gradual increase in the 60 years prior to 2015. Overall it looks like temps increased by about 1 degree from 1948 to 2015 and then about 1.5 degrees from 2015 to today. (I'm sure someone will claim that the Florida Climate Center began "cooking the books" in 2015 in anticipation of this ToTV thread in 2025).

Why go with 1948 - 77 years ago? You nailed it - that was the hottest year back then. And why use a specific year rather than looking at the trend over a decade or more? You nailed it again - because climate (longer term) is not the same as weather (short term). |

This is a different data set. For my earlier post I asked Copilot who gave that stat. I'm happy to defer to the Florida Climate Center data.
