Gee, It will only be as bad as the first Thursday of the month when I get my social security check!
Supposedly there are 110,000 villagers living in the metro area here and this person is worried about 500 extra people checking in for a rental. There are at least 20 supermarkets in the area each with about 1 million dollars of inventory at least. And I'm going to say at least one more time just because I can do that. Besides 100 restaurants, besides all the dollar stores with food, besides all the gas stations convenience stores with food, besides all the drugstores that now carry food,. And I happen to have a pantry stocked with 14 cans of tuna so I'm not worried .

Did the writer ever think that OWNERS WHO ARE PART TIME RESIDENTS of the Villages pay all the fees THAT FULL TIME RESIDENT OWNERS PAY to enable full time owners to enjoy golf, tennis, pickleball etc, etc, etc.....every day of the year but the SEASONAL RESIDENT OWNERS only use the amenities possibly 4 or 6 months per year? When we do use what we pay for why does he/she complain----wacky reasoning.

Our measure of returning snowbirds is when we try to pull out into traffic from our Village on 466. It is getting busier already.

AND I have always noticed an uptick in folks at Publix in the first parts of October and November and December and then a LOT of them in early January.

I live near 466 too. I sometimes stop by the Publix on 441 (across the street from Cracker Barrel) because it's a lot less busy than the one on 466.

Combine "first of the month" with "season for seasonal rentals" and "a Friday, which is typically the start of long weekends for people who move but are still working for a living, and take a day off on Fridays so they can have a three-day-weekend to move" and you'll likely see more folks at the checkout stand than usual.

Still probably not much of a big deal but it's certainly something to bear in mind, just in case you go to the supermarket and see longer lines and wonder why.
Exactly. OP’s post was just a reminder. Some of my neighbors have just returned.

I can’t believe people got their panties in a bunch about this post!!!
I have learned over the past years I have been here …..NEVER go to WalMart or Supermarkets on the 1st of the month for that VERY reason. Too crowded!

When I read this I thought the OP was just making people aware that there could be more traffic in the area.

Yes, definitely, in the past few days things have changed, many more people coming back to their winter homes. However, it does have an impact on those of us who are full time, year round, residents.

I went to get a flu shot at my local Publix in Southern Trace, the Pharmacy area was over loaded with people trying to get their medications sorted and there was one very large and very elderly man who looked like he was about to jump over the counter and attack the pharmacist

Some of the shelves were very empty, some were fine, but toilet paper was doing a brisk trade.

Also, for the first time all summer we were given the horn, and from the sound of their horns they must have been standing on them. However, give it a few days and the new comers will calm down and we will get used to the extra traffic and all will be well,

60+ cargo ships waiting to unload in the Pacific and no one wants to go back to their old job after 18 months and truckers shortage so I would imagine that has an effect

Actually, there seems to be fewer items and fewer choices on the store shelves than in the past. I wonder (?) could that be a trend that leaves us in a situation like the Soviet era and Cuban era long lines for staples? Does anyone know the answer? Anyone?
.......I have heard several TV Landers worry about the upcoming hordes of people coming back from up Norte. The real problem isn't the actual numerical increase in population, but the population per resource (like road lanes and store items and hospital beds) ratio that exists in TV Land. The fact that people are worried is proof positive that the resources are inadequate. That EVEN explains the fight over NOT having new rental apartments here.

Funny they should be rushing down here in October this year as I looked at the Weather Channel website yesterday and they have an October forecast for much warmer temperatures than normal for the Northeast (can't remember what it was for the upper Midwest) and much colder than normal for the West and for Florida. So it's not like they are high-tailing it out there before it starts to snow or anything. Fall is usually a nice time of year up North with the color change in foliage etc.
