Default Golf cart accident on Belvedere Blvd.

Yesterday at about 15 or 20 minutes to 3:00 I saw a man sitting on the pavement in the middle of Belvedere, at the corner of Buffalo Trail, in back of the high school. Several men were running back to their truck that was parked in front of the gate. From what I gather they heard a crash and ran back to pick up the overturned golf cart. But the man was still sitting there surrounded by debris from the windshield etc.. Neighborhood watch was directing traffic.

It may or may not have been reported to the police, although it has been recorded as an accident by Neighborhood Watch.

The Daily Sun said it might be in tomorrow's newspaper if it's reported to them by the police. But I have some doubt the police were called. We'll see.
I could be wrong but it looked like he must have turned too fast coming out of buffalo Trail and that caused him to tip over.

How many golf cart accidents never get reported?

The trouble is most people don't realize what death traps golf carts are. The paths are very narrow, slightest mistake & they will roll over. And, adults carrying infants on their laps-20 lbs @ 20mph= close to 400 ft.lbs. No one can hold back that much energy with their hands.

Golf Carts are inherently unstable vehicles. The 20 mph top speed set for the Villages is faster than the carts were designed for. Some people alter the governor and their golf carts can go much faster than that. Just last night at a party a fellow motorcyclist and I agreed we have no intention of altering our golf carts as they are not made for those speeds. Both of us have ridden motorcycles very fast, as well as sports cars, but those vehicles were designed to go fast. People drive too fast around corners and aren't always able to see the walkers or bicyclists who are on the multi modal paths. I also ride a bicycle and always wear a helmet, yet golf carts don't even have seat belts. I had seat belts installed in our cart. Hopefully that will help keep the occupants in the cart in case of an accident and not hit their heads on the pavement.

The best point you made was that YOU paid for the seat belts. I don't want them and I'm glad there is no law hat says I have to have them.

So can you imagine the potential for serious injury when a golf cart is adjusted to go 25mph and over?

I used to feel that no one should tell me that I had to wear seat belts. Then I was stationed in the UK shortly after they passed a seatbelt law with *really* hefty fines if you didn't wear them After about a year, news stories started coming out about the shortage of transplant organs. For those who aren't aware, the bulk of transplant organs come from violent deaths, often car crashes as the organs in those cases don't carry the disease or cancer cells that rule out most "natural causes" deaths.

I choose to wear seat belts, not because someone tells me, but because it just makes sense.

I generally think laws that try to protect us from other's actions are OK, but laws that try to protect us from ourselves are overstepping. But that doesn't necessarily make them bad. Many states force you to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Maybe I don't agree with the law, but as you said, it just makes sense.

When I was growing up, no one wore bike helmets. It was a tough sell to get my kids to wear them too as they got older.
Now we all wear them and ski helmets too.
The first time you bang your head it's a wake up call. It's the same with seat belts, safety glasses, face masks, gloves and construction helmets..
How foolish was I not to wear protective gear or force my kids to for social reasons.

Friend up north has never used a seat belt in his car and won't because the government told him he had to. There should be law on golf carts but like cars, there would be very little enforcement so it really won't matter and I doubt those that don't use them now would change their behavior if there was one.
