Default Golf cart drivers must slow down going in and out of the tunnels.

Another accident of a man driving into a tunnel and moved over for a cart coming to fast the other way. He moved over and hit the wall. Threw him clean out of his cart. People stopped and helped him to the grass, but were asking for blankets because they thought he might be in shock. It was over 80 degrees out, so maybe he was. There is absolutely not reason to zoom in and out of those tunnels. I yell at people who are going to fast. Don't care whether they like it or not. They can't be going any place THAT important to drive like a maniac. Slow down and enjoy the beauty of The Villages.

I agree, people are driving way to fast. I almost got hit the other day by a guy exiting a tunnel at top speed, then not stopping to see if anyone was coming around the corner (at the tunnel to the Savannah Center). He just smiled and waved and sped on. Yikes.

Drive defensively it's our only hope to remain alive.

As an outsider looking in right now, I must say that as the owner of a 400 hp sports car, this golf cart thing seems to be getting out of hand. I have much experience as a golfer with golf carts and their speed is governed. I have read that the golf carts sold/renter in the villages actually have more power and go faster than a regular golf cart. There doesn't seem to be any safety standards for these carts as there is for automobiles. This is dangerous and when I come down in June, I will drive a car. Flame suit on--ce

The only governing of speed device in TV is what one has between the ears....and many do not know how to use the golf cart or what is between the ears.
Being in my 70's....a sports car nut all my life...still am with two Corvettes....I cannot for the life of me understand why people in golf carts have to speed into or out of tunnels....why they have to pass on the paths putting many at risk.
I am for registering golf carts with a highly visible number. Then allow citizen's arrest....report the violators...yes some states allow that for auotmobles as long as one is willing to show up in court to follow through....here in TV... I would welcome the opportunity to report and show up to prosecute.
The majority abide by the rules.....it is the percentage who are in such a hurry to get to their tee time, or home to get their geritol or take their nap.
They need to be stung.
Needless to say I am also in favor of NO non standard cart motors....gas or electric than allowed in most golf cart communities.
Let's have solid line between lanes and no passing...wher ya going in such a hurry?
DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! Sailor and I have had company for the past week and I have numerous horror stories about golf cart drivers. First, many do not STOP at the designated signs in the tunnel, some take the turns on two wheels. One morning a family was walking four abreast, pushing a baby in a carriage. We came around a corner and were screamed at to slow down. We were going slow.......should they have been walking like that going in the same direction as traffic? We also met our first nasty Villagers........once again, we were in our golf cart. Are there rules of the golf cart roads?????

Eddie,
Carts sold by or rented from reputable dealers around TV do have speed governors of sorts. Their top speed is 20 mph. It is relatively easy to modify them to go faster, but the owner must make a conscious effort to do so. The vast, vast majority of people are quite satisfied with carts as they are and do not change them. However, as BTK says, the primary problem is operator head space. The carts are not too fast, but they are sometimes driven too fast in inappropriate situations.

Same rules apply as if you were driving your car.

I usually blow our horn just before we get to end of the tunnels, especially when you have to turn going out. There is always someone starting to enter and are over the center taking up nearly the whole path. My horn lets them know to move to the right.

Most tunnels (on the north side anyway) have a YIELD sign for those coming out of the tunnel. It is at eye level and easy to see. Obeying that sign will stop a lot of the problem.

As was mentioned above, it is what one has between the ears.

I think it is 10% of the cart drivers that have no brains when it comes to driving a cart.

I am all for ticketing those carts that go faster than the 19.5-20 mph speed limit.

What is the hurry!!

What may help is if the approaches to the tunnels were lane-painted. Too many folk cut the corners on tunnels where the "down-ramp" faces a wall and then requires a a 90-degree turn. Collisions are inevitable when the turns are taken too fast and too sharp. Lane-painting might help somewhat.

Why is it that most drivers upon entering the tunnels seem to want to go "faster" than before entering the tunnels...I have a solution, I hate speed bumps, but I love them, case in point, speed bumps were placed on the paths behind Lopez and Glenview Country clubs and I can tell you that they work. Put them in the tunnels and problem solved..I under stand there is some disscussion concerning taking out the center walking paths in the tunnels in District 4 because some people are scraping the walls and scraping the roof of their carts...I have traveled the paths for almost 5 years, and have yet to scrape the walls or ceiling...This venture is to cost something like $40,000 . By the way my cart does NOT possess 13" wheels...
