I once saw a golf cart with a 1.5 liter 6 cylinder engine in it. Man, could it scoot !! And it had a quiet exhaust system. I think it would be a lot of fun.

I understand many seniors feel they're getting to the end of their lives and need to rush to get where they're going in order to get that one more activity in before kicking the bucket. So, I don't mind getting passed in my cart. But I do mind being tailgated! Some of these speedsters just hang out on your tail but refuse to pass!

Been quite a few deaths in golf carts since we moved here 5 years ago .Carts going to fast and drunk drivers ! As long as they don’t take an innocent with them seems to sort itself out.

The more important question here s: why didn’t you pull off the road to let someone pass you? 19mph is not fast, it’s actually pretty slow. Almost every turn on the golf cart paths can be driven faster than 20mph. IMO, it’s the slower golf carts that pose the problem. Why is it safer to travel 200mph on the autobahn than it is to drive 70 mph here in the states? 1 of the main reasons is that slower traffic has to move over to the right lanes or get a ticket or have their license revoked. Same laws should apply here which they are but only on 3 lane hwys like i75 and i95. This should be applied to any 2 lane road here in the villages too.

If I had to pull off to the side of the road to allow people to pass me going 19 MPH on a straight a way, I would never get to my destination. That is a bit of hyperbole but you get the idea.

I’m traveling the speed limit and within the guidelines of golf cart rules so why should I be penalized and allow speeders to think they own the road?

Exactly. The faster carts/cars/motorcycles will simply pass you and be gone--no problem at all. But the snails, especially those in the left lane, are a problem that has to be dealt with by everyone and unfortunately encourages less than safe maneuvers by many to get past them---both insurance company and law enforcement studies show that slow drivers cause more accidents than so-called speeders---they might not be involved in them, but they cause them.

And speeders cause almost 1/3 of all fatalities on the highways:

GE….. there has to be a cut off point and I’m sure you know that. Good to “see” you again. 😊

To me, 19mph is not too slow in a cart since the cart is only supposed to be capable of 20mph max. Sure, I would be frustrated that I couldn't just hold my foot to the floor but that's the way it is on a shared path.

That’s what I love about the governor on my cart. I can keep pedal to the metal on straight a ways and be assured I’m not speeding.

Because YOU don’t get to dictate speed to others, not your job. That’s up to LEOs

Seat belt will suffice.

Slow drivers are passed by those not going slow all the time. This is called normal and expected.

Make sure not to try to block them, that is how accidents are caused.

By making sure not to block them, do you mean I’m supposed to slow down to let them pass? Sorry, not going to happen. The speeders either need to slow down or assure they have enough room to pass me doing the speed limit.

What is the law that says I must pull off the side of a single-lane roadway in order to let someone pass me?

I've seen minimum speed limit signs but not on single-lane roadways.
I've seen laws in WA that say you must pull off and let cars pass if you are traveling under the speed limit and holding up five or more cars but I haven't seen that law in FL.

I absolutely agree about not "sheriffing" the left lane on a highway but that is not the situation here.

Same here. I feel safer in my cart knowing I cannot speed. Wearing a seat belt also gives me a feeling of being safer. Knowing my cart will top out at 21.2 MPH on a down hill, I leave in plenty of time to get to where I’m going. It’s not like we encounter traffic jams driving golf carts. Right?

You've made it clear that you don't believe it but mine will do high 40's
I've only done it two or three times as it's a third cart that I bust out on occasion.
I try to appease the child in me while remaining as responsible as I can and respect others safety.
