At this point when I see a golf cart with a turn signal on when (for example) I am pulling out of my street or any street either in my cart or my car and the cart coming towards me has his right signal on the chances of him ACTUALLY taking a right turn is probably 80% which means if I pull out there is a 20% chance he (or she) is going to t-bone me.

I see this time after time. One has to assume the turn signals on the cart are on by mistake and assume the cart is going straight regardless of his signal. This obviously doesn't apply to everyone but even assuming 5% of them are on by mistake it makes it dangerous to assume ANY are actually turning when they are signalling.

What bought this on was today while walkng from Amelia to LSL (down O'Dell then on the Morse MMP to LSL) my wife and I counted FIVE CARTS on the O'Dell and Morse MMP passing by us with forever on turn signals out of probably 15 or 20.

So what good is having a turn signal if you can't trust it? Better that NO CART has one. I mean the number of signals left on for literally miles is amazing. YES, CARS DO IT AS WELL but very rarely do I see a car driving with endless turn signals (although sometimes they turn them on about 1/2 mile before the turn!

At least if NO ONE used them you would HAVE to wait until the cart either turned or passed. Yea, I know it is impossible to retroactively remove them all but everyone may as well not use them as they are totally worthless if they can't be "trusted" 98% of the time.

Hand signals (if you know them) are fine but stop using those useless "blinkers."
Ok, good rant. I can just see you saying this in one breath and turning bright red. Now breath. You point is well taken. I have an older cart that has a canceling system on it, it’s called my wife. 👍🏼🤣😁

One cannot trust them in automobiles either. About 1/3 of the time they don’t signal and other times they have it on way too far in advance.

Yes, they are wrong, but you need to handle traffic in any manner, defensively, not ban a good practice. Do you think they will signal at all?

since I was a young driver - I have NEVER relied on turn signals - now living here in the Villages it is VERY obvious that this is a GOOD thing !!! Many people here do the same thing when driving their cars !!! Most people here are retired but you would never know it the way they are always in such a hurry ( even in the stores ) !!!

Default Golf cart turn signals.

We have a community of 130,000 people, and probably 50,000 to 80,000 golf carts. I don't see or read about a lot of golf cart fatalities or golf cart accidents. So if we just keep driving the way we are, everything will be ok. And quit blaming everything on the snow birds, most of them won't be here until Jan 1. Be happy we have snow birds, because without them we would have all this big city congestion all the time, and besides that, they drop a boatload of money when they are here. All the business's love them. Chill out.

Now that, larcha, is the best defense of them so far on this thread.

Not if the car is originally from Michigan.

Do you have a link to that ? Thanks

When I first got my cart I found myself quite often driving down the street with my blinkers on. My cart does not have self cancelling blinkers. They show up in the side mirrors and are almost impossible to see during the daylight hours. It is easy to forget to turn them off (no excuse but it happens just the same). I wanted my cart to be safer and more visible especially during dusk and after dark. I had Liquid Lights put additional lights on the body and back so I could be more easily seen. Additionally I had them install lights on windshield/roof support frame. The strip of blinking lights is about 6" on each frame and impossible for me to miss. They are extremely bright especially at night and remind me immediately to turn the blinker off. I feel much safer knowing I have provided other drivers and myself the best visibility I can. It is then up to me to be an alert and defensive operator. I recently added seat belts as well. Driving a golf cart or a motorcycle can be dangerous and a good thought may be to remind oneself that in an accident even if I am "right" I'm still "wrong". There may not be a second chance. An accident with a much larger vehicle is a no win situation for anyone.

The rental cart signal is usually by the drink holders. Hard to see. Or if you look at any Yamaha gas gauge you will see it flashing...

It takes 10 repetitions of a ritual before it becomes habit. Those folks who never turn their signals off, are people who have never tried to turn their signals off.

Everyone forgets once in awhile. But there are repeat offenders who need someone in authority to start handing out tickets for that. You're right. It's dangerous. Get caught once, get a warning and a note added to your ID (or drivers license if you don't have a villagers ID). Get caught twice, get a written warning and added note to the ID. Third time - you get a ticket and pay a fine.

By the third time, the police or community watch will know to actively look for your golf cart. You will automatically be under suspicion so get with the program, or pay a bigger fine.

Refusal to pay fines could result in your gate passes being invalidated, and future guest passes recalled/rejected.
Once the fines start, we will have the perquisite threads about the "GREEDY DEVELOPERS" fining people...

Be careful what you wish for...

In Florida, I don’t trust any drivers! Car or golf cart. Signals or no signals. This state has the craziest drivers I’ve ever seen!

The funds collected from fines can go toward multi-modal repairs and curb striping.

Default Same thing goes for car, and people who don’t use their signal or have the wrong one

People in cars, dont use their signal and will turn right on top of you on a street by cutting the corners to make a turn.

The turn signals (directionals) on my electric Yamaha golf cart are self canceling.....just like a car or truck or SUV. I LOVE them.
