Default Golf Club Rental

I found one thread on renting/borrowing golf clubs but it was a year old and I am hoping that there may be other alternatives.

We have some guests coming in March who will want to play golf but are unable to bring clubs. Based on a bit of searching I have unearthed:
  • Golf USA stores in Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs rent complete sets including bag for $20-30/day. That is OK for a day or two, but I am looking for a week or so.
  • clubs can be borrowed from Palmer for a few days gratis but the idea is to loan clubs to potential buyers and I am not comfortable borrowing clubs for this situation.
  • there are several on-line rental companies but they charge $50/day or more

Anyone know of other club rental options?

Thanks

I don't know what quality clubs you are looking for, but you could probably buy a used set with a bag at the Market of Marion or in some of the garage sales in TV for less $$ than it would cost to rent clubs for a week. Then you would have them for all your guests when they visit.

Default Golf Clubs for Visitors

I bought one new set at Discount Golf - $179 included the bag; the other older set was given to me, but I had to buy a few clubs and a bag. Now that airlines charge for everything these clubs are a convenience for our guests.

I have 2 complete sets of R/H clubs - one for tall, one for shorter players. I have them for company and so far we do not have anyone scheduled, and you are welcome to use them gratis.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did go to the Marion Market yesterday and you are correct, there are lots of clubs and one could probably put together a useful set for a guest for $100 or so. It is clearly an option and may well end up being the solution as that eliminates any coordination or availability issues.

Thanks for the reply and very gracious offer. I will PM you regarding guest schedules (not sure precisely when in March yet). What a great place TV is!

Club rentals (complete set including putter) are available at the championship courses for $14.00/day, for day of play only. Check with each course. Friends rented for play at hacienda and they were new tour edge, complete set, only needed their own tees and golf balls.

By far and away your best bet is to go to Palmer and check out a set from them . You get almost brand new top of the line clubs with no obligations. They are not just for potential buyers. They hope that you will want to buy from Palmer but no obligations.

The golf clubs are located at the Golf Club Acadamy, located behind Palmer's restaurant. These are demo clubs, some of which can be used for 3 days, others are only allowed for a single day. There are not any golf bags for use with these clubs.

People coming in to borrow a full set, for 3 days, are often told to rent them from the championship courses.

I have taken out full sets numerous times and have never been asked to rent them from a championship course. I have experienced just the opposite, the workers are only too happy for you to try their demo sets. I have taken out individual clubs and whole sets and have never been told that they needed to be returned the next day. Maybe that is a new policy I have not heard of.

thanks for the reply. When we were renting last Feb, clubs were readily available from Palmer. I borrowed several different sets and ditto for our guests. The wonderfully gracious attitude of the staff a Palmer was one of the reasons we decided to buy a home here. I also borrowed a set in Sep'08 just before the sale of demo sets. However, when I inquired about borrowing sets from Palmer recently (Dec'08), the attitude of the staff was quite different. They made it quite clear that these sets were for people contemplating purchase and asked quite a few questions about what I was thinking about buying and when. I recognize that there are no obligations, but the attitude was quite different.

Anyone else notice any changes in the last few months?

I noticed a change in attitude at Palmer regarding club "loans" recently. Palmer was very casual about loans and even allowed me to "renew" over the phone last winter. Ditto for this past Sept. But more recently (last month) their attitude seems to have changed.
