Army Guy--- I'm a little intimidated too, when my husband and I are paired up with two guys. I must say, however, that the guys have always been super nice. Even though I'm not very good it has never been a problem. I do prefer playing with another couple though.

Priceless as always Fumar!

Ooper - I'll admit it takes me a few holes to get used to stopping at the forward tee. Just bang one off my head and I'll get the point!

Hey Fumar,

I bought my Callaways on the electroic equivalent of a garage sale (ebay). The only magic marker in my bag though, is for marking all those balls I lose!

E-BAY
Now thats a whole nother subject . My wife buys everything on e-bay and its getting on my nerves........Our last TV she bought on e-bay , It makes no deference that its black and white and a 9 inch round screen , It seems the huge Philco cabinet matches our furniture ......
which by the way she bought from the same place .....She also bought two barrel chairs for the living room and they are actually made from barrels....(the echo is terrible) , but I think the last straw was when my voice went up two octave's and when I checked my shorts , they had an E-BAY label and she washed them without looking at the instructions , " BEAT ON ROCK AT NEAREST STREAM "
This all started when we moved to the villages , OH TO BE HOME AGAIN...

FOUR FEET OF SNOW ISN'T REALLY THAT BAD !!!!

You all are a hoot! Heah, my wife beats me often too! She is really great off the tee and on the green, it is in-between that causes her grief. Me, I am good in the middle! Now if only we could combine our game, we would be on the pro-tour!
As I said we both started about 9 years ago, and go for yearly lessons in Myrtle Beach every Jan. We do it for the fun and beauty of the courses.

Default Fumar, Boy Howdy, you ain't right! lol

Fumar you are a crazy man and I adore reading your posts.

ArmyGuy.

One of the things that I didn't want to happen and I had mentally tried to prepare myself for....just hasn't occured.

I have played golf for 36 years, and at one time, I played ....not great but decently,(not anymore) but I have always played quickly, mentally choosing my next club and had it drawn when it was my turn. I tried to watch other peoples ball so that we could all keep the pace, didn't play honors, but ready golf etc. etc.

I was expecting that it would be very slow here with a lot of new golfers and I have NEVER found it to be. I have had my putting line walked on a time or two but never had anyone talking during anyone's setup or swing. The pace is great and new beginning golfers are just as enjoyable as the other 99% who can beat me any day of the week.

Golf is a little different here, but just as much, or even MORE fun!!

Gracie, Thanks! That is good to hear. See, I would have thought the same thing, slow play. Glad to hear that it moves at a good pace. I hate it when the wife & I are going good, and then...............have to stop! It throws your whole pace off.

When I book me and my wife as a twosome, we hope for a male/female as the other couple. If we get a female/female, I will play from the forward tees to allow for talking and fun. If we get male/male, my wife is not happy but after we start playing the guys are always supportive and are enjoyable company. With the exception of one couple (male/female) who seemed to be upset at everything they did, we have never had an uncomfortable or uneasy time with any twosome we have been paired with on a golf course.

I say sign up as a twosome and take whatever twosome you get paired with.

I don't golf, but I always have to read Fumar's posts, no matter what the subject.
Does anyone know the best place to take a golf lesson or three, prior to starting to play? I tried going to the driving range but just kept missing the ball.

Wow, after reading these posts, I'm going to be afraid to golf. While I will take a couple lessons before I start to play, being new to the game, I know I'm going to be quite slow. Sounds like no one will be very happy with me. What's a beginner to do?

Don't be afraid Best Mickey!

They have great lessons at Arnold Palmer I am told but after the lessons what a beginner does to keep up is just what I said. Be ready. Be familiar with the rules. If you have taken over ten strokes on a hole pick up your ball and begin again on the next. Everyone of us has been a beginner. Go to the driving range a lot. I would love to play with you anytime Best Mickey. My husband is a good golfer and is very good and patient and understanding and very helpful if you ever want suggestions on your setup and swing or want to go with us to the driving range. Golf is................not quite as easy as it looks, but lots of fun when you get the hang of it.

Not to worry!

GG

Short story. I went to this golf course to play by myself in Virginia. (private club) Go to tee and there is two women they sent me out with. THANK god I didn't say or think anything about playing with women. They tell me they are playing the blue tees, for which I thought some strange things, but still just said OK and watched as they tee'd it up. She was about 5' 3", maybe 110 pounds, and her drive went close to 300 yards. Now guess who was embarrassed. On my best day, maybe 275 for me. Well my first drive went about 255, and I bogied the hole while she got a birdie. Her friend got par. Turns out she was Chris Tschedder (sp) an LPGA professional. Very nice lady and a great golfer who would have to give me lots of strokes. She out drove me by a lot on every hole. Shot a 70 from the blue tee's, while I got a great round for me at an 88.

So lesson learned. Play and let play and enjoy the game with who ever they put you with. And if you get with two other guys that have a problem, it's their problem, not yours.
WOW what a treat! She spells her name Kris Tschetter and you were very lucky to have had the opportunity to play with her, she is a delightful, gracious person. Here is a link to her LPGA Bio: http://lpga.com/player_results.aspx?id=562

The best place that I know to learn, and they taught us everything, is the Steve Dresser Golf Academy in Myrtle Beach. He works out of True Blue Planatation actually in Pawleys Island. He is FANTASTIC, and very reasonable, ok CHEAP! But first class all the way. It may be a ride, but well worth it. His site www.dressergolf.com
Both the wife and I highly recommend him. His Dad lives in TV in Spanish Springs Square area.

I second Army's endorsement of the Steve Dresser school. The whole staff is excellent and very helpful. You will normally play True Blue and Caledonia courses after morning classes. Both are challenging and beautiful courses. Don't plan on doing anything but playing or practicing golf however during the school days. You will be tired and perhaps a bit sore. Great experience and well worth the relatively low cost compared to other top 50 schools.

Tom, great to hear from someone else who has used Steve. We started with him when he was back at Tradition. But the school is much better now at True Blue especailly with the state of the art training center he had built. Also I could not believe how cheap the prices are.
Yes, that is for sure about being tired and sore! I think we only sat for 15 minutes combined for all 3 days! We where out hitting and putting. And the best part is the classes are small so they are always helping you.
