Default golfing for a single new player

Hi All....I've been renting in the Villages since Jan. 1 and would love to play some golf on the executive courses. I have only been playing about a year and totally love the game. I am a single so my question is does anyone know how others feel when a single player without too much experience plays and is put into a group to make it a foursome? I've only played a few times since I've arrived but at that time I had a girlfriend visit and we went out together...on those occasions we played with some great men who were very patient and fun. Now that I would be going out alone I'd just like some insight as to what to expect. Thanks for any info you can give me....Charlene

As a single I've filled out many foursomes and have yet to meet a golfer who wasn't gracious, patient, respectful and helpful.

Remember we have the privilege of an outstanding Golf Academy at Arnold Palmer C. C. They have many programs and superb instructors.

Above all, enjoy yourself.

Please do yourself a favor and attend the (free) Good Golf class before you jump into the fray. You (and those you get paired with) will enjoy the game a lot more.
You will meet a lot of great folks on the golf course. Enjoy!

I go in as a single player at least once or twice a week and always have felt welcome. The first time you will feel uncomfortable for about 20 seconds then all is OK!

I do suggest that you use the computer tee time system and go to the 3 day out reservations. In this part of the system you can see if you are joining a male, female or mixed group. The system will show 1 male 2 female etc. As a guy I will join a male and a female but wouldn't feel comfortable say joining 3 females.

You can sign up for the tee time system at The Villages net office next to Urban Flats at Sumter Landing. They are available by the month and they have a couple of computers in the office to use. As a single you can get on faily easy. Tee times change all the time as people cancel out for one reason or another

I agree with Indy. When you book 3 days ahead you can see the gender of the people you would be playing with. When I am booking as a single I always look for 3 women and it usually works out very well. Once however I did end up golfing with three men even though it has shown on the list as three women. Turns out a woman had done the booking and listed them as her guests. They then show up as the gender of the person doing the booking. For this reason when I am reserving for male guests I use my husbands ID so they show up correctly.

Most golfers are great and patient since we all had to learn sometime. However the best is to try a golf school here in TV or see a Pro and get lessons. One thing everyone seems to forget and thats its not all about your game or lack of it. Its golf etiquette something most people never learn or never get.

I took my wife out for the first time in years last winter. We were paired with a guy and his lovely wife. Thank goodness for her.

He was completely obnoxious and a big butt to my wife, who had to contain me from doing something I would later regret. Anyway be aware they are out and around.

Also if your signed up with comcast and the villages.net website you may create a template for yourself on the exec courses and make a reservation 1 week ahead.
