Default GPS Navigation

Came to The Villages 2 years ago for LifeStyle program and now we are ready to buy and coming back for month of May to try and find a 2 Car Villa near The Squares. Anyway the last time we came down I noticed my GPS navigation did not work "in" The Villages. Was told that they had problem with The Villages not allowing address to be installed for GPS and although I found that hard to believ I was wondering if anyone uses a GPS to get around in The Villages as we could use a map to try and locate property for sale a GPS is so much easier.

Also after being taken around the 1st day the Sales Rep kept pushing "NEW" houses and kept telling us that the BOND was not a factor in "the Sales price" to which I never understood how she could tell us that as well as "neglected" to tell us that "The Villages" sales Rep are not allowed to sell .. or show houses that are listed thru Realtors or BuyOwner! Would really like to "change" my Sales Rep as once your in their "system" you keep the same Sales Pre and hate to offend but feel like they could care less about what "I'm" looking for.

Looking forward to buying in The Villages for the main reason that we can have things to keep us occupied and was amazed at how nice the people in The Villages seem to be. Anyway just curious as to if anyone uses a GPS to get around and if anyone might know of a "deal?" near Spanish Springs that has a 2 car garage around $150K - $160K.

Thanks and wishing you a great day...

We were in TV in early March of this year, and didn't have any problems with streets not appearing on the GPS. Not to say some brand new streets/neighborhoods weren't there but nothing jumped out. I haven't updated my maps since I got the current unit.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 360 last summer and my wife uses it to navigate all around the villages...Frankly , I don't know how we lived this long without it..

good luck ,,, Fumar

PS Now navigating the golf cart paths is another matter ......

Speaking of golf carts paths, do they appear on your Garmin, or just the streets? They're pretty close to the streets so maybe they don't? Thanks.

We were on a Lifestyle visit in early April and used the Verizon GPS navigator built into our phone with no problems at all.

Thanks for all the replys as I now feel safe in knowing my "TomTom" GPS will work when I get down there. Don't know how I ever managed to get around without it, now especially after needing a magnifying glass to read a map anymore. Wish they had Viagra for eyes.

Again... really appreciate the feedback and.... this "Talk of The Villages" WebSite

And, speaking of sales reps, if you will do a search on this site for "Villages Sales Reps" you will find several accounts of good and bad experiences and advice on changing agents.

Chatt, make sure your maps are up to date with the latest maps before you come down. I know that Garmin and a few of the other manufactures get their maps from NavTeq. I have a Nuvi 750 and the 2009 maps and they do not include some of the newer areas of TV. I believe the 2010 version are out but I will have to check.

I don't think Hadley, Hemingway and St. Charles area covered in the 2009 maps.

As far as sales reps, yes you can change reps. Do a search on sales reps as there was recently a lengthy thread about that subject.

I believe the sales reps of TV will only deal with property that is listed with TV and will not do anything with homes listed by other companies. A name that is mentioned here a lot is Lyle Grant for those listings. Here is a link to his web site.

My husband and I plan our first visit to TV in May. We too are hoping to move there. I did call TV and got the phone number of a book store that sells maps for $5. If has been very helpful.

MM,
There is so much to see in TV you will feel like a kid at Disney at first. If you haven't tried the search before, there is a wealth of information there to help you prepare for you visit. For example birdcages, lanai exposure, driveway sealing, the squares, what village and on and on.

If you have other questions, just post them here. You will get helpful advice.

Good luck and have fun.

Kate

Default Sales Rep

My rep was Alicia Ford. She was the best. Took over a year for me to buy. Made about 5 visits. She was patient low pressure and helpful. Was really impressed that each time I came she knew were we were in the process, what I decided on the last visit and where to go next.a

Default GPS Update for Garmin

Garmin has a lifetime of quarterly updates for sale for their gps units on their website for $120. Can't beat that deal since the updates are normally about $80.
