I have always been careful about scammers. But this guy saw some damage on my car in a parking lot and offered his service for a better price than a garage would be. He worked on it and while waiting he preached the Bible to me, which I assume is part of the scam. He then covered the work with a wax and told me not to wipe it for a few hours and then left. When I wiped it, no work had been done on that portion. I called him and he promised to be out "this week". He did do another dent I had but the job is just fair. Now you guys can let me have it for being a dumba$$.

Sorry that happened. I think that no name or phone number on the car would have been a red flag to me.

Weird I was just thinking about a similar scam that happened to me about 7 years ago.... sometimes I get these psychic thingies. Anyway in Vegas a young Hispanic guy approached me in the Walgreen's parking lot and asked if he could give my car hood a sample wax job. I said sure as it was looking dull and so he started. Then a couple of his cohorts came over and one asked if he could get my small dent out. I said okay you can try and he started tapping on it with the soft part of his fist. The wax job was ehh.. not so good, kinda greasy looking but the dent area looked better and less noticeable. Then they asked for payment of $40 so I hesitantly gave it to them.
Do not fall for this type of on the street scam, if anyone like these people comes up to you tell them no thanks you have a so-and-so fixit person. While they did sorta fix the dent at perhaps cheaper than a shop I felt pressured and scammed to pay. Odd situation because I'm always the no thank you guy whether it be at my door or on the street. Caught me off guard then but never again. So there's my dumb@&$ moment. Last edited by mikeycereal; 11-08-2022 at 12:27 PM. |

As a general rule, if its an "unsolicited service" being offered to you (ie: your roof looks bad, car is damaged, lawn needs fertilizer, house needs washing, etc)
ITS A SCAM! People / Co's that do these type of services, especially here, have so much work, they don't need to troll around town, looking for random people to do it for. |

Can’t believe people still fall for this scam. Hoping to save a few bucks.

Oh well…we’re all dumba$$es from time to time. í ½í¸‚ Take a lesson, laugh it off, and move on down the road a little bit wiser.

I recall the "Draw a pirate, or turtle" on matchbook covers.

Yep, I recall those as well...I actually submitted one as a young man.
I received a reply back informing me that "cheating on it was an automatic disqualification!" I didn't cheat, but I did go on to illustrate 4 published books, an album cover and multiple other publications.... ![]() |
