Ares gun range. Rural Leesburg. (352) 321-8102. They have a variety of ranges for rifles, inc., as well as handguns. There are several for handguns that are (for want of a better descriptor) niches lined with old tires so even if there is shooting all around you, you're essentially on your own private range.

They offer pretty much everything. Basic and advanced shooting skills, tactical skills, even hand-to-hand combat training, plus a couple of more I've forgotten but which are listed on their website. As our carry permits didn't transfer here from Minnesota we had to apply for Florida permits. Our instructor was Sarah Williamson, who works out of Ares. Extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and (if appearance is anything) tough as nails. Annie Oakley reborn. I learned things from her that I never even thought of before, and I've been shooting handguns all my life. Opposite-hand shooting, for one: the rationale being that if you're right-handed and have your right hand incapacitated during an altercation, you'd better know how to shoot with your left hand or you're pretty much SOL. She also put on a demonstration about how important practice is. Near the end of our session, she pointed to a life-sized target of a person's head maybe 10 yards distant, pulled a pretty impressive 1911-style semi auto out of a holster on her belt, pulled it up and squeezed off a shot all in the space of less than two seconds. Bingo! Mr. Target was no more. Then she asked us to check the sights on her pistol. There weren't any! The moral being that you should know your pistol so well that point-and-shoot is as accurate, or nearly so, as the fanciest sights. Beyond impressive.

Default Wrong prices for Shooters World

The prices quoted for shooters world are quite wrong. I have included a screen shot of their very reasonable prices for their very nice range. As a female, Monday is obviously my favorite day because it is free.
they are also a terrific place to go if you are wanting to try different guns prior to purchasing. I wound up buying a different gun than I went in for (and am glad of it) once I got in a fired several contenders.

Welcome to The Villages!

The gun shop inc, no ac, but fans. Not fancy and new. $50 for you and a partner to shoot. Unlimited time. (Not charged by the hr like shooters world)

We chose the gun shop inc to sight in a new optic. It was fine for what it was. I was out of there in 1hr and 15 minutes. So sighted in my new optic for $50. Shooters world because i went over a hour would have been around $110! If i was bringing someone from out of town out shooting to impress them i would go to shooters world. Hope this helps. Neither include ammo. Both places require range/target ammo. No green tip etc.

I belong to the Eustis Gun Club and have a membership at Shooters World. The Eustis Gun Club has outdoor pistol and rifle ranges and has a number of shooting competitions you can participate in. Shooters World is a modern indoor facility with pistol and rifle ranges. lf you intend on shooting a lot consider an annual membership.
As has been mentioned, join the Villages Straight Shooters Club. There are a number of competitions run by the club.

Here is a link to the Eustis Gun Club

There is also a shooters club in The Villages.
Shooters World does not serve alcohol. The bar is for non-alcoholic beverages and snack foods.

Default TV Gun Clubs

There are several gun/shooting clubs in The Villages (TV). All are great.

The Villages Straight Shooters (Home) is the largest club with the most resources of our clubs. An outstanding resource for any gun owner, but especially for a newbie.

“This club is a social organization that brings together Villagers who have a common interest in collecting or shooting a variety of firearm types, for their own enjoyment, and who are interested in promoting the safe use of firearms in general. The club can provide a forum for its members to share their enjoyment of firearms and shooting, and be a clearing house for information relating to shooting events in the Central Florida area.

The club does not sponsor or support any one event or shooting discipline over another. The club may also provide or arrange for educational opportunities for shooters relating to firearm safety and licensing, firearms training, care and maintenance, swap-type get-togethers, and a social atmosphere where members can "talk guns & shooting" and other mutual interests.”

The Villages Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays Club (About) is another awesome and very active group in TV.

“The Club’s Mission is to encourage a social exchange in addition to shooting measure. The Villages Trap Skeet and Sporting Clays Club promotes the safe, organized & consistent participation in community clay shooting events."

The Villages Air Gun Club ( The Villages Air Gun Club - Home ) is yet another active group in TV.

“The mission of The Villages Air Gun Club is to foster the development of air gun shooting by providing opportunities for members and guests. The Villages Air Gun Club will provide a safe venue for shooting, by providing organized shooting competitions, fellowship and good sportsmanship and by providing opportunities for family activities while keeping firearm safety paramount in pursuit of all these activities.”

Shooters World ( Villages Indoor Shooting Range and Gun Store • Shooters World ) is a Terrific, clean, well-maintained indoor shooting range with very reasonable prices (see attached photo)

In addition, there is an excellent outdoor range nearby in Leesburg called Ares Training Facility (Ares Training Facility - Shooting Range, Firearms Training). They won the award for Best Shooting Range in Florida for 2023. There are some excellent instructors at this range. I can personally recommend Sarah Williamson (for both women AND MEN). She is an outstanding marksman and patient, effective teacher. (US Women'''s Shooting Academy)

Joining any/all of these clubs will not only give you access to all kinds of knowledge and skills, it will fast track your social connections in TV. Welcome to your next hometown!

Hands down Ares training facility in leesburg. It is an outdoor range. That is where I go and I love it. I pay $400 a year and I can schedule pocket berms, which are kind of like a personal shooting range. Drive down there and check it out for yourself.

There are also a number of instructors that train there. Their signs are displayed on the fence as you pull up. I use the guy named John Gardner, he was excellent and reasonably priced. The name of his business is Force 4 training. I took his basic pistol and conceal carry class.

When I purchase firearms, I go to Guns and Gold in Belleview. It's a small shop but they can get just about anything for you and it's a great family owned business. Shooters world is a great place to go look at guns because they have a ton but when I buy, I buy from guns and gold.

Lastly, if you're gonna buy ammo look at target sport USA online. You can get it a LOT cheaper.

First join the Straight Shooters Club when you arrive. There are two indoor ranges in or near the Villages. There are two outdoor ranges in Leesburg and one is a private range for the SS Club. Ocala also has on outdoor range and Club.

The prices are on the website. 35 rifle range. 10 extra person. 10 each for shooters card. = 65$ plus thats only 1 hr. You go over by a minute you pay more.

Is there a skeet shooting range open to the public in the area?
Thanks

Question (since I'm not yet a full time resident and my guns are currently in Massachusetts):

Didn't Florida pass constitutional carry? Or will my wife and I need to obtain a carry permit when we come down there full time? I won't be coming for probably 2 years, but I think I may move my guns down to my house there sooner. Plotting out my drive to avoid NYC recently.

Yes. Florida did pass Constitutional Carry. Went into effect last July, as I recall.

However in my opinion if you're going to carry in Florida, then getting a permit is a smart move. For one thing Florida has reciprocity with a lot of other states. A Florida permit is good in those states, which may not have constitutional carry. Another reason is that laws differ from state to state, and the Florida permit class is supposed to cover that as well. What was legal in Massachusetts may not be legal in Florida, and vice versa.

Another benefit is that there is no three day wait to purchase a firearm.

They did. You can look up the legislation online to see what it all entails. The same restrictions apply as with permit carry
