Default Guy selling steaks out of white truck

I was outside when someone let me know that he had just delivered steaks to one of our neighbors and they all couldn't fit in the guy's freezer so if I wanted to buy some steaks at $3 each...

I didn't.

Has anyone been in contact with this guy and brought the steaks?

I guess it's a way to make a living!!

Years ago, I bought in similar conditions......, and it turns out (we think) it was horse meat...

No way I’d buy from some random guy in a truck. No telling where the meet came from, how old it is or how it’s been stored.

There’s a member on here that claims he feeds his dog... horse meat. Maybe he’ll see this post!

No way. Also, don't buy day-old sushi from the gas station.

One of my favorite comedians....Nick Dipaolo....in his bio, he talks about going door to door for an outfit selling meats etc. Not uncommon in that era and quite profitable for ‘the guy’ doing it. Just don’t see it as often in the neighborhoods today....most have transitioned to farmers markets.

I recall someone doing that years ago. It was probably around 2008. Guy came to the door and his truck was out front. My Dad said no.

Default Lobster tails

Bought plenty of lobster tails in California back in the 80s off of a guy who was out every Friday and Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours. They were always delicious. That said, we are in a different era and you probably don’t have the guy that raised the “beef”. In our case, the seller dove for the tails.

So, those guys are back. If it is the same guys from about 5-6 years ago, they verbally claimed to have Omaha Steaks, had shirts that said Chicago Steaks, and yet a third name on their truck. I decided that if they ever knocked on my door again I would get my phone and start recording. I figured that they would go running. But I have not seen them since.

Not sure what recording would do. Most established communities have ‘Do Not Knock’ ordinances. Which means a vendor would need to check in with the appropriate licensing authority before entering a neighborhood. Not sure if that is even an option in TV or more importantly the county.

Pre Covid.....Dollar Tree was selling $1 (before $1.25 kicked in) Rib Eye steaks. So if people will pay a buck for a ‘steak’ at a dollar store known for selling Chinese toothpaste in the past....they’ll cut out the middle man and buy it from a truck....curbside!

Unless you're in a Patio Villa (which most have "private roads"), I think you're stuck with anyone who wants to go door to door. At least that's what I've been told is the case in Sumter County.
