Hi Villagers
My husband and I visited The Villages last week, and we are VERY interested in buying a home there. My husband will be retiring (early-age 56) this spring/summer. I am 48. While we are not both going to stop working, but we must leave Long Island in order for us to afford my husband to leave his job. Its a very physical job, that has taken its toll! We obviously love the place, but will we fit in with the residents there? What is the realistic age range. Thank you...hope that didnt insult anyone. Dee |

Hey Dee2 (I'm a Dee, too), the age range is all over the place from what I've seen. While the majority are in the their 60s and 70s, they're an awfully young 60-70. I turned 57 in November. I've been very comfortable here -- have some friends quite a bit older, some close to my age, a couple younger. The reality is age really is a state of mind here.

Dee,
I'm 56, hubby is 58. And there are tons of people our age and younger. And some in their 70's that just SEEM to be our age !! I agree with Red that age is only a state of mind... And most everyone here has the same goal, to enjoy life...

Dee,
That was one of my wifes fears. We were moving down with a bunch of "old people" who probably sit around all day on the couch. We bought 3 years ago. I was 50 the wife was 46. I swear they put something in the water down here. These are the most friendly , active people I have ever met. There are 20 of us on our block that go golfing together every sunday (lately with all the snowbirds, hard to get a tee time for 20 though). This group of 20 includes the whole age range. There are 4 couples on our block in our 50s. Some in our golf group are in their mid 70s. Age has very little meaning here. / Jeffy |

Dee,
We can form our own 'kids' group. I'll be 53 and my wife will be 50 when we move down. Up to 20% of the registered owners can be under 55 and with sales such as they are I've been told "no problem". |

Well Dee, I just turned 64 and Barbara 62. We just bought a home in TV. If you and your husband play tennis just about every day, softball, bocce and bowl, plus love to go to the landings and dance away the night, you might fit in with us old folks. Looking forward to seeing you here! JohnnyM

I was very pleasantly surprised both by the chronological age span here -- seems spread mainly from early 50's to early 70's -- and the not emotional, not physical, maybe psychological age of most residents. Everyone seems considerably younger than counterparts out there in the real world. Maybe it's the pixie dust. I'm 61 going on 16 - :
![]() Oh -- forgot to suck up a bit -- Red may be 57, but she certainly doesn't look it. A mere child! :hot:

Dee - one more thing,
my wife is younger as mentioned but her hobbies are different than mine. I'm into sports of all types while she is more of the crafty type (plus some fitness swimming). She can't wait to take advantage of the large populous who do the craft things (quilts, painting etc.) |

Dee,
It doesnt matter what age you are, TV will make you feel younger, livelier and more active. So, our 70 year olds feel like 50, our 50 year olds feel like 30 and you and hubby will be mere children. Now doesnt that sound like a great plan for the rest of your life??? ;D

I am 51 and hubby is 56, we have been here 3 years and I did feel like the youngest Villager at 48, but now there are many more youngsters here. Our friends are in their 70's, 60's and 50's and full of fun. Golfed with a 98 year old who was a hot ticket. We work and may always have to, but we hope to have 30+ years here! Thats a lot of warm, sunny, happy days!

In my opinion age is not an issue or a factor. And you are old enough (as a couple).
One thing I believe is a significant attribute of TV is that it does provide the venue for the young at heart regardless your calendar number. There are more active 60 to 80's people here than you will find in many places. And once here you will be amazed to find the youthfull folks here. It is not your typical retirement community with the stigma of the "blur haired" elders. Yes we have them, but the predominance is a very, very active community. Just visit Spanish Springs and Sumter Landing town squares to get a good calibration. There is so much to do (or not do) without having to reach in your pocket book to partake. BTK |

Hi Dee, even though we've been here only 4 months and I turned from 59 to 60 during that time, my fear was the same as yours. I envisioned hundreds of white haired people with walkers and such. Have no fear! The place is so active, no on has time to feel or even look old. I swear I'm youthening like Merlin as we speak. And especially in the beautiful town squares that are open to all, there is such a mixture of ages. I've participated in many activities and joined some clubs and let me tell you, these people are out to have fun. I know you'll have a ball.
