Default Have do you have your mail forwarded?

For the villages that are there months at a time, but, not full time.

Does the postal company forward your mail at no charge? Or do you use a service to have it mailed to you?

Default mail forwarding

we did 3 months rental this year and had USPS forward to the same mail box the owners used. The USPS charged a dollar to do the temp change of address. Next time I'll cut off the forwarding about 10 days ahead of our departure to make sure we don't have any leftovers in the system. Takes about 3-4 days for forwarded mail to reappear in your Villages mailbox.

We are snow birds 5-7 months. The USPS has a service called priority mail forwarding. it costs about $12 per week but it is great. They collect all your mail and then send it priority mail once a week. No change of address. We have all our mail addressed to our home up North even mail from the Villages. Then we are up North we get mail every day and in TV we get it once a week. No problems at all.

My Postman Tom is the best! When we were in TV for just over a month I had our mail held here in NJ...but every Wed. Tom would gather our mail and put it in the USPS cardboard envelope and mail it down to us. It was so easy to go over to the Lady Lake PO and pick up our envelope every Sat. I pre-addressed and pre-paid the mailing costs and also set a stop date with Tom; so we got our mail at TV and the last week's mail was delivered to us upon our return to NJ.

I wonder if he will be as agreeable when I mention that we will be in TV for 12 weeks instead of 6 weeks this coming winter!!!!!!

Default Post redirection

We live in the UK and the Villages. We usually spend 6 months in the Villages (though with the recession this year we may only afford just over 4)!

Anyway, we go along to the Post Office (usually the one near Lake Griffin Road on 27/441) and complete a form there. They used to have the forms out on display which we would complete when we were waiting in line, but now they don't - you have to ask for them at the counter.

All our mail that would normally go to our house in the Villages gets redirected to the U.K.completely free of charge.

We used to do this originally by getting in touch with Jane's Outpost in The Villages - give them a call they should be able to help you. We certainly haven't paid any cash out for this service - it's great.

About a week before we come back out to the Villages we give Jane's Outpost a call and they cancel the redirection for us so that our mail is there when we arrive.

Default Post redirection

Guess I may have misunderstood. I thought you meant getting mail sent from the Villages to your home addresses. Now I look at the posts again I think you probably meant sending your mail from your home to The Villages. Sorry!

We in the UK do have to pay a redirection charge to Royal Mail.

This past winter we stayed for three months and had our first class mail forwarded (at no cost).

I thought they would trash the other mail but when we got back to Calif we discovered that the Post Office was still delivering mail to our house the whole time we were gone. The house sitters were piling it on a table in the house but forgot to tell us it was being delivered.

Next year we will pay the $12 per week and have everything sent to us.

Default Forwarding Mail

I work for the post office, instead of doing regular forwarding which can take a week or more. I would pay the $12 to have it sent. We are trying to sell our house and move, I will rent for a couple of months, but I will pay $12 instead of temporary change of address. The less you can change your address the better off you are.
