Default Vnn

Not to hijack the post, but I was on VNN. I was one of the first ones in the Kindred Spirits when it opened on Mulberry.

I should have saved the video! My 15 seconds of fame.

Sorry for the hijack.

Now back to your regular scheduled program.

I was never in the Daily Sun, but I was on the cover of Playgirl once... ONCE!

Hey Z,
That's no hijack. It's in the (kindred) spirit to the topic at hand.

Default Paradise in Pictures

A photo I took was on the cover of last February's Paradise in Pictures supplement to The Villages Daily Sun. It was a photo of a sunrise. Does that count? My name was mentioned on the inside cover, but no photo of me.

Will try again this winter to make it to the inside of the supplement

Had my picture in paper for my five favorite things a couple of weeks ago.

In December, 2006, The Daily Sun did a story about me and the naval cadet who escorted me to the Grand Coronation Ball in the 1958 Miss USA/Miss Universe Pageant. There were a couple of photos. The reporter did a great job telling the story of two naive kids who met in a most unlikely way, stayed in touch over the years, and reconnected late in life. He named his first daughter after me so I guess I must have made a good first impression!

A few years back, they did a big feature on Villagers who are retired firefighters.

I don't remember it but I hope they gave you the credit you all deserve. I can't think of a more noble occupation. I'm glad you are all retired now and out of harm's way......in my book you guys rank right up there with the military. Thank you for your service.

Thanks for all the responses! Someone at the pool once told me that the Daily Sun posts so many pictures of residents that eventually all 110,000 of us (after buildout), would have a photo in the paper. Personally, I have never had my picture in any paper, anywhere. Maybe there's a law against faces like mine being printed for public use. You know, to protect the innocent. Keep them coming.

Yes, I've been both pictured and quoted in the paper a number of times!

Thankfully, though, never on the Police Blotter page!

First time was in May 2006, when my collection of owls (figurines, pictures, etc.) and I were were featured.

If I'd have been in the paper "at home" it would surely have been relating something really, really bad!

My kids think I've become a-hard-to-know-personally celebrity!

Thank you for that. Seems as though we have gone from heroes to zeroes these days. Some think we don't deserve our pay and benefits. Believe me, I've suffered over my years of service with lost friends and physical injuries that affect me to this day. The average firefighter only lives 5 years past retirement.
