Default Have you filed a Roof Warranty Claim with CertainTeed?

I am in Dunedin and was advised to file a roof warranty claim with CertainTeed.

I would appreciate it if someone who has recently and successfully filed such a claim would be willing to share their experience with me.

Thank You !!!

NOTE: As post#2 points out, this is not an insurance scam, this is a manufacturer defective shingle issue.

I dont remember the details - BUT before you get the insurance scam posts….
This isn’t a homeowners insurance claim, there was something wrong with the shingles or the install. I think there is a 10 year window to file the claim - I think it mostly impact homes between 466A and 44.

Someone with more info will chime in.

I filed a claim for mildew stains on the roof. As the original owner, they will clean the roof for free within 10 years. They will be cleaning my roof on Tuesday, April 16. Many of my neighbors have already had their roofs cleaned. It is recommended even if you don't see stains on the roof.

You do not have to be the original owner, I had it done as the original owner and two of my neighbors were second owners and it was still covered. They do a great job and the algae does not come back.

Yes, you don't need to be the original owner, but I think you need to file the claim within 2 years of buying the house.

My house was 7 years old when they cleaned it under the warranty.
They did a nice job.

I filed a warranty claim with Certain Teed about 2 years ago for defective glue on the shingles. A representative came and inspected the roof and about 3 weeks later we settled the claim. They were easy to work with.

VT - The aggregate (granular) was cooled too quickly on the asphalt laminate so this caused a rapid decrease in granular accumulation on fiber asphalt mat.

Default Roof replacement

We are in the Village of Dunedin and when we bought the house in 2020 during the home inspection it was noted that there was a problem with our roof shingles. The roof got replaced at no cost to us because evidently there was a problem with roof shingles and they were under warranty. Quality roofing replaced the roof

As the OP, I see I need to be more specific. The warranty issue is not stains, but a result of the manufacturing/cooling issue that occurred around 2014 causing a significant loss of the aggregate allowing in some spots, the fiberglass to show thru.

The kind of information I am looking for is, did you use The Villages Warranty Dept or go directly to CertainTeed? What all did they require? Were they easy to deal with? How long did the process take? Was the "settlement" a roof replacement or "other"?

I'm hoping to make this a one and done as opposed to an ongoing process.

Thank you

For my small claim on stains, I went to Villages Warranty first, so they had a record of it, they referred me over to CertainTeed. CertainTeed was very cooperative, sent out an inspector of their own, we agreedd on what needed to be done, and they did the job timely and expertly.
