Default Help regarding Web Cameras

Help please. I have not been able to view either web cam for awhile. When I click on my desktop icon for either Square I get the web page, but the picture is blank as in white paper blank and there is a message written there that reads...

"The ActiveX camera control which enables you to view live image streams in Microsoft internet explorer, could not be registered on your computer."

I have been haunting the web cams for months getting my TV fix. Not anymore. Does anyone know how I can rectify this situation?

S&T - My guess is that IE was auto updated.

Are you getting a thin box near the top of the page that says something like "You are trying to install and ActiveX component and your current settings do not allow ActiveX"?

IF so you should be able to right click on that box and install the needed ActiveX control.

You could also look under TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS then SECURITY then click CUSTOM LEVEL then browse down to the ActiveX section and make sure that you enable them (or at least prompt to allow).

Before doing this make sure that you've cleaned up your cache files and maybe even delete all current cookies. (First page of INTERNET OPTIONS then DELETE under Browsing History - screen should appear to delete files and cookies).

Hope this helps.

HI Susan, Russ is correct. Just right click the yellow stripe going accross the top of your screen and left click on "add Active X" or "install Active X". It should take about 30 seconds...

Okay guys, I know it has been awhile, and I am still without the webcam pictures.

I tried what you said to do ... exactly. No positive results. Any other ideas?

Johnny there is no yellow or any other color strip that says anything, let alone anything about ActiveX.

What can I do?? I miss seeing the Squares.

What is your OS? IE or Mac?
You might want to give FireFox a try.

I use Mozilla Firefox and the cameras come in nice and clear (when they're working that is).

Kayaker I have a PC not a Mac. I have had Firefox but discountinued it. We have Comcast and there is no need for Firefox from a security standpoint.

I have always had access to the webcams until a few weeks ago when they both went blank...except for the ActiveX message that I quoted earlier.

My PC automatically upgrades itself periodically and I am wondering if something got replaced or turned off. When I did as Russ suggested I turned everything in ActiveX to enable...still no luck.

Help!

Did you try setting the security to medium? It might be currently set to high? When I did this (set it to high) they did not work.

There is also a 'reset' button on the 'advanced' tab of 'Internet Options'

You could try that as well if the security trick doesn't apply.

I don't know why you are having problems viewing the web cams. However, it seems the Lake Sumter Landing camera is not working today anyway. Only the Spanish Springs camera is working.

I did it, I did it. I went to Tools, then to Manage Add-ons, then Enable /Disable, then found the one ActiveX setting that wasn't set to enable which just so happened to be CamImage Class...probably short for camera image.

Yeaaa, thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it.

Great. The weird thing is that I don't even have that option at all but it works anyway.

S&T Just for future reference, you can go into programs, click on accessories, then system restore. Then set your computer back to an earlier date, when you had no problems.

You are absolutely right Beachguy and thank you for that suggestion...however the scary part of that is that by using System Restore, I would also be setting my entire computer back to that previous time.

I love watching the Squares, but not enough to lose everything I have recently added to my memory.

I don't look at the Web Cams a lot. But I think the last ten times I've checked them, over a two-month period, Spanish Springs Web Cam has been working, and LSL has not.

Oh yes, I saw a dirty ashtray one night on the LSL web cam on a table (for some bizarre reason) and then it stopped working again.

Neils, Russ, Tkret, am I doing something wrong?
