Queens just as bad as Long Island, the primary reason being that we lived on an island - everything had to cross at least 2 waterways to get to us so increased shipping costs were passed down to us.
That said, I was surprised at the cost of food down here, too, especially fish and produce. I counter that with the lower costs of electricity and fuel, so it's probably a wash.

Grocery prices have recently gone up everywhere. Perhaps that is "partly" the reason one might think that prices are higher in TV.

In defense of Public's, the service there is way ahead of my supermarkets up north. Sure, you pay for it but how often does a grocery insist on helping you to your car with your groceries?

It was previously discussed on totv and a poster stated that there is a type of monopoly with the wholesalers / distributors that causes the higher prices.

Love Aldi's. It does take getting use to. I have found the quality very good and the pricing excellent. I only go in Publix or WD for specialty items.

We spend the warm months in our NY home in the Hudson Valley and my wife has said from day one in TV that the food prices are higher than in our area of NY. We just returned north a couple of weeks ago and she immediately noticed the lower grocery prices. Utilities, except water, are higher in NY, insurance about the same, gasoline is much higher in NY.

I agree. We too divide our time in TV and Michigan. In addition to returning to friends in Michigan ........the grocery stored, restaurants are superior!

we noticed an increase in our shopping bills, the last time we were over in the Villages. Not by much. Still a lot cheaper than England, and much better quality and choice than we have at home.
Gas is waaaay more cheaper in the states than here Costs me nearly $100 to fill my CRV

Food costs are about the same here as they were in Connecticut--except for seafood. Yikes, those prices are high! Overall, the quality of produce here is better, but I still haven't found any really good beef. I haven't been looking too hard though, we need to eat less red meat, so it's not a big problem.

Other than wishing for Jersey tomatoes and fresh corn in the summer I am satisfied with the cost and quality of the food here. I wish there was more local produce, not everything shipped from California or Chile but it is what it is.

With no income tax in Fl, cheaper insurance, no heating costs, no snow removal,way lower property taxes---I'm almost living for free

We can buy a lot of food with what we save in not paying $500 to $700 per month in winter heating bills, and no state income tax here.

I'm in Western New York state for the summer, and go to Wegman's all the time. I think the pricing is the same as Publix in the villages. Like someone else in a previous reply stated, Grocery prices have been skyrocketing in the last three years. National brand cereals have practically doubled in the last 4 years. I do shop the sales, and the BOGO items always. I thought I was on a different planet when I went to Whole Foods. Have a great day!
