My suggestion, have your wife contact all of the local businesses, and see if they can use her services, full time or part time. This would avoid all of the above concerns and problems.

The best suggestion. As always.

Unless they work out of an office building, wouldn't all the home watch services be considered home-based? And people who drive you to the airport? And handymen, window washers, dog walkers, car detailers, etc.? I have a woman come to my house to do massages. I'd prefer not to patronize illegal enterprises, but it frankly never occurred to me to ask to see anyone's business license.

I think that is the whole point of the thread. The professionals you mentioned go to the clients house. The OP was asking about clients coming to their home.

The ones I used are actually breaking the covenants. One makes slide out shelves in his garage, one repairs sprinkler systems and keeps an inventory at home, and one washes windows and keeps all his supplies and equipment at home. Why did I use these scofflaws? Because they do a good job and their transgressions don't affect me personally. If I lived next door to the shelving guy, and heard his woodworking equipment every day, I am sure I would run a process starting with personal contact. If I lived next door to either of the others, I assume their comings and goings would go virtually unnoticed by me, and....well, you know, live and let live.

Just wanted to chime in here as the op. Thanks for all the input.

We were never talking about a high volume operation, just a few clients a week, if that. Most likely close-by neighbors that could simply walk over. Of course visiting other houses is an option as well.

We have visited some of The Villages salons but had to walk out immediately because of the harsh chemicals they use; the odor was overpowering.

Again I hear ya loud and clear, businesses like these are not allowed.

I'm aware of and have used a golf cart rental business run from a home in the Mallory area that has been ongoing for year's. We often wonder how the neighbors put up with it?
