Default Home owners insurance

We were down in May looking at homes in TV and found a couple nice places. However I keep hearing that home owners insurance in Florida is Very expensive. Can anyone give me an idea of what it might cost for say a $250,000. home?

Thanks, Benk1

We just called around for quotes. (One company didn't even bother to return our call). We got quotes between $700 and $950 from Sumter Marion Insurance (American Strategic Insurance) and Rutland Insurance (Tower Hill Insurance). Quotes depends on how much coverage you want, if you have a golf cart, and your individual situation. I think stucco villas are less than frame dwellings. I think it is more if you plan to rent it out. Not sure.

I have no idea if our quotes were reasonable!

For a $250,000 home those quotes sound about the norm. Much depending on the exact coverage you get. The stories that we all hear about the outrageous insurance premiums are those with coastal property in Florida.
