Default Is it HOT?

Am I the only skeptical person that sometimes reads items posted by people, generally a first post and the item is a piece of construction equipment, a builders tool, a part of a new home, tile, cabinet, appliance etc. etc. etc.

And I wonder, is this stuff stolen from one of the construction sites? Ot taken from a business that the seller works for?

Or am I just mean hearted?

Given what happens everyday (even in TV) in the world---it's hard not to be skeptical. This is why friends and neighbors (relationships) are important.

On craigslist, I'm skeptical. Here, not so much. Figure a lot of people move here, bring too much stuff, no time for working in garage, tools gotta go. Upgrade their kitchen and appliances and cabinets gotta go. It's very common for newbies to do this, so, I'm not as fearful of purchasing from folks here, even their first post (I've told more than one person to place an ad here to sell something).

Most construction site have security if they have left valuble items on site as there have been many thefts in the northeast area. I have seen in TV paper where one of the construction workers was caught stealing the property himself. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

If it's hot, I good dose of skepticism is healthy for your wallet.

I'm pretty sure Gracie, that you don't have a mean bone in your body. But if you do, please display it here just for the amusement of the rest of us.

Well, I must confess. I met Gracie and I have to tell you that she truly is one mean person!

Um, folks, Gracie's a Scorpio. Ergo, she has several mean bones in her body -- she just manages to hide them better than most of us Scorps. And before y'all beat me up, I think Gracie is the kindest, warmest, gentlest person I know next to Helene. So, Gracie does have a mean bone, Helene has none, Henry/Sweetie is a saint.

I wish people would post descriptions of stolen stuff on here perhaps for our head in the sand mentality euphamized under "lost and found"......

I don't know, in my country everyone wants a bargain that fell off the truck (even if it really didn't) LOL, they actually brag about it. I guess it adds a certain mystique to the tv you really got at BestBuy.

Me thinks Gracie wanted to just pose the question as opposed to pin pointing certain people and their posts.

We all read these things and wonder.

Roof tools, butt wipes by the case.....

Oh well who am I to think other than positive?

I've wondered about those things also. I've noticed that many of the sellers of items only have a couple of posts. Found that strange.

For me, just to be safe, I would limit most of my purchases on here to sellers with over 17,000 posts!

I think it's best left up to the Admin/Moderators of this website to worry about the intent of new posters and to "police" the postings.

Contrary to what some may think, not everyone who lives in The Villages knows or cares about TOTV.

I have recommended this website to many Villagers who were looking to buy/sale/discuss something. Most of them have never even heard of it. I'd hate to think that someone I sent here to advertise/post something were suspect because of their post count.

I am not sure you have enough posts to say that ... and I know that I don't have enough posts to post about your not having enough posts

It is all so very hard to understand ... how many posts does one need before they can post about posting?

I imagine that several of the people who sell on TOV are rummage sale junkies or pickers, and they clean up and flip the better goodies for some profit. I've noticed one "regular" seller seems to specialize in golf clubs, bikes and larger tools/equipment. SIx months ago he was selling a bike that sold for a very reasonable price by our neighbor at their rummage sale. There was a 4 day time lapse and a $40 price increase. Everyone is happy so more power to him!
