It's called word of mouth. Lol. That's what TV is all about.

Agreed, they can have whatever they want in our house. The only things I would be upset about being stolen would be our golf clubs, golf carts (which are well locked up and disabled when we aren’t there), and our bicycles. Have at the rest, please just don’t pee in our pool.

it's so TRUE! i was robbed up north years ago. living alone i was concerned of the crime going on around me, (much different than the Villages, shootings & gangs)
. i had adopted a dobe, & no one ever tried to break in again. they didn't have to know he was a baby-doll, it was the look alone that would make people cross the street when i was walking him. i realized he was more 'powerful' than a weapon, in that sense.

I was thinking the same thing about our house. Anyone breaking into our home would be sorely disappointed. What are they going to take? I mean our home is comfortably and nicely furnished but it's not like we have precious jewels, rare art and cash laying around.

Beware, they're out there

I honestly don't see that this has anything to do with The Villages.

I’ve owned in the last 20 years 6 homes in 6 different neighborhoods in villages and I socialize quite a bit and I have never met anyone who has had his house robbed , I’m not saying it doesn’t happen ,just that it seems to infrequent for all the worrying that some people seem to have here , when I have renters in the winter I have to search for a key because I never lock door when I’m here

To bad every home in TV didn't come with security alarms.

Why????

It seems like this is too much concern for the actual reality of the close to non-existent crime here in The Villages. Sure, practice the normal precautions, but don’t stress out over it or take over the top precautions.

With the exception of domestic stuff crime within the residential sections of TV seems to be very minimal.

could they actually do it?

To quote Clint Eastwood's character Will Munny in the movie Unforgiven: "Funny thing, killin' a man. You take away everything he's got and everything he's gonna have. Did You Know?"

I've absolutely no desire to shoot someone, however I have a great desire to stay alive. If I believe my life or someone else's life is in danger, yes I will pull the trigger. I imagine that I would definitely have emotional problems later with taking someone's life.

If you own a firearm for personal protection, be absolutely sure you can make that decision to shoot. If you hesitate it might be taken away from you by the thug and be killed with it.

Another thing, if you own a firearm practice with it regularly so you can hit what you aim at and learn safe gun handling. If you don't to do that you don't need to have a gun.

If you carry a gun for personal protection it would be very prudent to have insurance. Even if a jury decides the shooting was justified self defense it will still cost you thousands of Dollars for a defense attorney. The cost for liability insurance is quite reasonable.

If the gun is strictly a house gun it is possible your home owners insurance will cover any legal costs if you are forced to shoot an intruder. Check with your agent.

As to accidently shooting an innocent bystander, that is where you have to have the presence of mind to know what is near your target and make a shoot or no shoot decision. Also have the marksmanship ability to hit the target.
