Default How do I obtain a toll road pass device?

I am coming from the western states, not the north, so I don't have any experience with toll roads. How do I obtain a toll road pass device for Florida? How do they work? I saw an earlier thread where they discuss different options as well. I don't plan to travel North of Georgia.

As mentioned in the previous post, you can get one on Amazon. I purchased mine at Publix.

SunPass is Florida's system and will also work in parts of Georgia. EZPass is used in the northern states. The SunPass device will only work on SunPass roads. The SunPass PRO device will also work on the EZPass roads. Not surprisingly, the SunPass PRO device itself costs a little more.

An important step is creating an account, providing funds (typically a credit card) and linking the device to the account. https://www.sunpass.com/en/home/index.shtml and Floridasturnpike.com have all the information you need. My account is set to automatically add $10 when the balance gets below $7

Once the device is registered to your account, the account is funded, and the device is installed in your vehicle you use the SunPass/EPass lanes with no need to stop or even slow down on the sections I have traveled.

EPass is a similar device from another tolling authority in Florida. I believe EPass is equivalent to SunPass and EPass UNI is equivalent to SunPass PRO.

Make sure you're going to use it, I bought one and find I don't use the toll roads very much.

Sun pass has a no charge thing going on now for transponder and you may win some money - was in paper today, didn't read it all because I already have one.

You can get the SunPass stickers pretty much anywhere. CVS, Walgreen's, your local AAA office all carry them. Those are the ones that are not moveable. It's just a sticker with grey "veins" on the back that connect to a tiny transponder built right into the sticker. You put it up on the windshield near your rear-view mirror. If you try to remove it, it'll rip and be ruined. They're $5 I believe, and then you have to register it online so that it can load up funds when needed.

You can buy passes at several locations, but Amazon offers many different options and accessories that may not be available in the stores. I would suggest checking it out.

For future reference there is a search function at the top that provides a wealth of knowledge from the TOTY Archives.

The E-Pass device is free, and is a credit card sized card that sticks inside your windshield. It is registered to a single vehicle. You set up an account online, associate a credit card, and fund the account with an amount you choose. You can also have them add funds to your account when your available balance drops to a level you specify.

The E-Pass Uni is not free (about $15), and is a portable device that you can move from one vehicle to another, including motorcycles. The Uni is not registered to a single vehicle.

Did anyone tell you that you can also pay cash at the toll booths and you don't have to purchase a pass?

Some toll booths have been removed. They scan your license plate automatically and send you a bill. It is convenient, but expensive.

The epass is accepted in about 18 states and cost about $15. You can get it through the mail and it is attached to a registered vehicle. You can use it in other vehicles because it is attached by suction cups, so can be used in a rental car, if needed. A great many toll roads in Florida no longer have access to paying cash and you wind up paying by plate which attaches a $2.50 charge to every toll. Worth it. I have traveled on non toll roads and it stinks.
