We’ve mustered a successful modern boardgame group! The Retreads Board Game Group continues to remain an active group since about April! We play regularly on Monday evenings from roughly 6pm-9pm (sometimes a little later if a game or camaraderie runs long!). We have a scheduled spot (the legendary Tiki Hut room) at the El Santiago Recreation Center!

We’ve been playing mostly what I call “modern” board games of various level of complexity. Retreads is usually not the place for Mahjong, Mexican Train, Backgammon—those games have dedicated spaces at other days and times. We have played Small World, Century: Spice Road, Sub Terra, Terraforming Mars, and Ticket To Ride among others.

Last week, we had people playing Lantern, Kingdom Builders and Deadly Doodles. Come on over, bring a game and teach us how to play or come learn a new game you haven’t yet played. New options are available nearly every week!

Among other games this week four of us played a game called Clank! It was a fairly strategic board game with a deck-building component. Lots of fun and rated a 7.8 of 10 on the website boardgamegeek.com.

“Clank! is a deck-building game. Each player has their own deck, and building yours up is part of playing the game. You start each of your turns with five cards in your hand, and you'll play them all in any order you choose. Most cards will generate resources, of which there are three different kinds:

• Skill, which is used to acquire new cards for your deck.
• Swords, which are used to fight the monsters that infest the dungeon.
•Boots, which are used to move around the board.

Every time you acquire a new card, you put it face up in your discard pile. Whenever you need to draw a card and find your deck empty, you shuffle your discard pile and turn it face down to form a new deck. With each shuffle, your newest cards become part of a bigger and better deck!“
