The famous people thread got me thinking. Truly famous people, at least those who were celebrities and made big money, would never be likely to settle in TV. It's kind of sad when you think about it, but they probably couldn't just hop in the golf car and go to the square, or play golf without creating a scene. Not to mention their accustomed lifestyle would not allow for them to think of living in a retirement community. Once again it makes me think of how truly blessed most of us are to have found this place, although I am not yet there on a full-time basis. We can enjoy a lifestyle that the wealthiest of the wealthy would have a hard time duplicating, and enjoy it with the warmth and company of thousands of people like ourselves. I suppose the wealthy jet-setter can belong to nine or ten country clubs around the world, but they can't simply get in a cart and go to any of them they choose. I suppose they can afford to see great entertainment when they like, but not as conveniently as in the squares, or as much fun methinks. I guess the moral of the story is be glad you weren't so successful and famous that you would find it difficult if not impossible, to enyoy this place.

![]() ![]() I just finished reading a book on Lefty Gomez, the great Yankee pitcher who played with Babe Ruth and went out with Ruth and his wife. He stated at some point Babe had to stay home because if he went out he was mobbed and couldn't relax. I don't want the attention that fame brings but it wouldn't hurt to have that kind of money. ![]()

Very thoughtful and insightful post, Ed. I have to say, as a consummate positive thinker, I am grateful for each day. Life truly must be better in TV! And I, for one, can hardly wait!

With the Internet though, it does not take much to become "famous". May take a lot to stay in the limelight though, if this is even wanted.
Betty Skelton however lived in the Villages and she seemed to have a lot more significant accomplishments than many who would be considered rich and famous. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/...3zJ_story.html John Travolta lives within 35 miles or so of the Villages. Not sure he ever visits the Villages as he seems to fly around a lot. I cannot see someone like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, George Clooney though moving to the Villages because they would have absolutely no privacy. |

I have often wondered about Nancy Lopez? I do believe she also has home elsewhere though.

There are a lot of famous people relatives living in TV. Actor Steve Carell's parents live here, golfer Stewart Cink's parents and many others, I'm sure other posters can remember who. They have stories in the Sun almost every week about some persons family living here.

Actually, I bet there are people living in TV that are famous for inventions or discoveries that affect all of our lives everyday. It is just that they are not in the limelight of entertainment.

I mentioned my thoughts to a friend and he said, yeah but if you were rich you could eat at the finest resturaunts, drinke the finest wine, and drive a Rolls Royce. Okay, but I can't imagine being more satisfied with a meal at Emeril Lagasse's than Monday lobster night at Lopez. The finest wines? Well I have found taste for wine to be in the eye of the beholder - some of the so-called finest wines I have had were wasted on my palate. I will take a bourbon and seven with a twist out of a shack on the square any day of the week thank you. Drive a Rolls Royce? Give me a four passenger yamaha and I'll watch the sunset over Lake Sumter with three friends and raise you morning tee time at Becall.
