It's hard to find a balanced informative video on The Villages that isn't overly biased one way or the other. This one though touched on many topics that are of interest to us. Overcrowding, traffic, ignoring age restriction rules, rising costs, ect. How much of this is true ?

Many of the facts are true (amenity fee, maintenance fee). Some of the impressions are glass-half-empty views (overcrowding). Can’t speak to medical appt scheduling but then I have no problem driving to the Tampa area. I haven’t noticed a significant increase in traffic in five years though the Morse & 44 intersection has gotten bad in the last two A lot of the video is rumor with no evidence to back it up Nothing that hasn’t already discussed on this forum. I like it here so I’m a bit biased but it really feels like it was designed to paint an unattractive picture. It probably gets clicks, maybe there is some monetizing, and possibly even a goal of influencing prices.

Making insurance only inflated within the bubble is comical. Comparing 4 sale, new and used, during the pandemic ( basically few, with new home builds at a near standstill). Today the numbers of 4 sale of 700 are pretty accurate. Why because what he doesn’t tell you is many of those residents bought a different house in TV. The building has finally caught up with the thousands of homes that couldn’t be built due to lack of lumber, all the way down to fixtures. This I know because we built during this time. Instead of 300 fixtures I had 2 to pick. Has nothing in your area increased in price, taxes, insurance the same for 5 years, your country club didn’t increased dues by $5,000 We played golf near SS. Twosome did nothing but complain about all the new houses making everything crowded. When Thayer asked where we lived they had no idea where Brownwood is. In fact they had never been to where our third house was near Havana Golf course. Now if you met the many Older residents who live north of the 6’s, you will definitely get bad attitude of how crowded it is, but have never traveled more than 15 minutes from their house. Have never been to LSL, no idea where Brownwood is, and is Eastport near the coast? (Our drive was 57minutes to their area) Do I love the TV that my parents fell in love with in 2000. NO. Was all my 5 village neighborhoods perfect? NO Does everyone never move away? NO. Do people move 2.5 times in TV, NO. We moved 5 times. If you are the type of person who obsesses over a move to a new community. I suggest you do what many like us have done. Keep northerner home, rent or buy a PV and snowbird for a few years. If it doesn’t work out sell the TV house and stay north.

hmmmmm ... obviously the author doesn't understand, that the Developer doesn't own the Amenities in the North and it building the ones in the South, with Bond money. A fairly significant misunderstanding. I only watched about 10 minutes and he must have mentioned the "Developer", 100 times. A lot of the problems mentioned, are real. The problem isn't the "Developer", the problem is that the Developer controls the government (the District) and the County Commissioners and District Reps, are mostly asleep at the switch. When the CDD system of development/government was created by the Florida Legislature, I don't think the Legislature anticipated 80,000 homes in one community, being governed and managed, by an essentially appointed entity ... which is still mostly controlled by the original Developer. So there a lot of homes for sale ... big deal. Only the people who think buying a home is "investing" are worried. The folks who bought a home to live in it, couldn't care less. Count me in the later. |

Next - I live "north of the 6's" and most of my neighbors are older than I am. Some are much older. I'm also in communication with several hundred other people in the Historic area, most of whom are much older than I am, on a semi-regular basis because of volunteer work I do. "It's too crowded here" is not on the top 20 list of complaints I hear from them about living here. Probably because - it's not too crowded here. Most of them have been to LSL and have friends living beyond a 15-minute golf cart ride from their house. Some of the ones I've spoken with have been to Brownwood, especially during the strawberry festival. And I've driven with several of them to Tavares and Mt. Dora and even Clermont. |

If you already live here then I am not sure why you need to have a balanced informative video to watch regarding the Villages? If the video said it was the worst place to live or like the Wizard of Oz does that make a difference in your decision to stay or leave? We asked someone that lived here and did our own research before we moved. If you don’t live here then do like we did and stay a month or two over the course of time and decide for yourself.

I think whoever said that we were “drinking the kool-aid” should leave if they haven’t already. I have been here almost 21 years, and couldnt think of a better place to live that is very safe, has all the amenities I need, tons of places to eat out if you choose to, entertainment every night of some kind some where…yes we have rules, and I am glad we do. The traffic increases in “the season”, I can drive most anywhere on my golf cart, I dont have trouble with tee times, the country clubs are fun, and elegant in most ways, we have great neighbors….and grocery shopping is easy and have several choices…I could go on and on. If people think we are drinking the “kool-aid” let them. Most everyone here is helpful, time and time again, I see people post they need help for something and someone responds that they have sent them a private message to help….where else does this happen? I love it here, I dont always like th decisions that are made, but I accept change of things I cant control and move on and find something else I do like. Life is short, make your own decisions based on your own fact finding and dont listen to all the negativity that goes on. If you are around negative people that influence your life, find new friends. Happy holidays!

I made it through six minutes of this garbage. Maybe I’ll put on my work boots and wade through the rest of this cesspool flow later on.
It looks like some not so bright resident whined about everything that ruffled their shorts to their wannabe filmmaker nephew and they are now trying to profit from this sensationalized pablum. Cmon who is NOT aware of higher home insurance rates? And I have a problem with people whining about traffic on the MMPs and frankly in general. Sure 44 and Morse can have some backups here and there but this video makes it seem like we can’t get out of our garages without sitting in traffic. Crap propaganda like this video just ticks me off. Sure TV has some things to cause concern and self education, but it is still well worth what we pay for our lifestyle in the bubble. |
