Default How to Secure Large Glass Slider Doors

We live in a Gardina with a large four-part glass sliding door leading to the lanai. Have heard about "charley" bars and wooden dowls as security mechanisms. Wondered if anyone has installed a lock such as that shown at the SafeSlider.com website and whether or not you are happy with the results. If you have other recommendations, I would be most interested in hearing about them.

Thanks

Jim

Jim, there is an older thread, "patio sliding-door locks" that has several ideas.

We have a 20 foot slider and I have locks bought at Ace Hdwe that you can see on Assured Lock & Tool Supply web site. The locks come in 2 or three colors and sizes. Check out ENG-5-sdl, ENG-10-sdl and ENG 20 sdl.

A visible wooden dowel that the thief can see and know they will have to break the window to enter, a light shining from the inside they cant disable before breaking in, a sign that warns them there are security alarm devices and a camera recording their crime, and if they are bold enough to come in anyway, a gun to defend yourself. Most thieves go after easy targets. When they know what they are facing, they will go elsewhere.
