Jan,

I am so sorry for all the turmoil you are experiencing. There are many of us who will always appreciate the work you have put into TOTV and only wish you the best of luck. I am sorry to see you leave The Villages.

Yes guys we will continue and be better than ever. I agree with Helene, you know we appreciate TOTV very much and all the work you do and have done. I am sorry that you and Amity are being stressed by all this, but just remember the rest of us all admire and respect you.

I find it hard to believe that individuals would stoop so low to harm you and amity. Love this site as I find it very informative, so much so that it has helped us several times finding services for the house. Thanks for a job well done.

Default Sorry to See You Go

The meanness of some people continually amazes me. I'm sorry that this has happened to you and your wife.

I've seen your house on line and, believe me, if it was in my price bracket, I'd be very happy to live there train and all. It's gorgeous.

Keep the faith!

Another Jan

Hey Jan, a piece of encouragement, I sold my house in LA in THREE MONTHS in this market and it was 1/2 mile from LAX, talk about noise!?!?!? And it looked no where near as great as your house. I'm sure you'll have good luck, but we're sorry to see you leave TV.

Yes Chuckster, you're correct, it's very hard to believe. That's what makes it so frustrating. These were people that we had developed a real fondness for.

Jan..
So sorry to hear what you are going through..I have seen your house and if I could afford it .. trains, planes, or anything else you could think of, would NOT stop me from buying it...

Your home is magnificent!

March 19th is the Feast of St.Joseph..Pray to Him, I'm sure He will listen! I will keep you and Amity in my prayers...

Wishing you the Best. And as others said, very sorry to see you leave. It's a tough decision, I know.

Hopefully, some of those that caused the problem will realize that and somehow make amends. We all know life is just too short to attack others.

Best Wishes for your future. May you continue to make friends--and may they be true friends whereever you go.

Six years ago, my wife and I built our dream home here in the Villages. Now, because of, in part, a medical condition (Amity has Multiple Sclerosis) we are attempting to sell our home and move even farther south to a warmer climate.

As many of you know, I’ve publicly discussed the fact that unbeknownst to us; we built in the near proximity of the CSX rail line. With the new “train horn rules” and the lower decibel output of the horns, it is much less of a complication than it would have been even two years ago. Our real estate agent assures us the house will sell.

When my partners and I put Talk of The Villages on line we knew it would be a wonderful community of people and we also knew that there would be a certain number of malcontents. Over the past two years, we have had to issue warnings to only a dozen or so of our 8,000 members and we have had to ban only about six people. Sadly the very same “train issue” is at the root of some of the banning.

A healthy discussion of the CSX rail line and its impact on the Villages is perfectly acceptable because it affects so many people. However, a handful of our former and current members have apparently undertaken a mission to use the train issue as a means of deliberately “derailing” or sabotaging the sale of my home. As recently as yesterday (Tuesday February 24th) one of these people posted a direct message on TOTV saying that nobody should buy my house. (The post was removed) This matter has led directly to the banning of at least two members who clearly wished to add continued hardship on me.

Now, a small group of present and former TOTV members has exercised their absolute right to start their own forum. However, they are using Talk of The Villages sponsored events and our membership roster to recruit new members of their choosing. Their stated purpose is to keep the “creepy people” out and “let our friends in.” Sadly, they are using the “train” issue as a running joke on this new forum in a misguided effort to further damage me and my home sale.

I can’t image hating somebody so much that I would deliberately attempt to cause economic damage to them and their family. I guess it kind of tells what you might expect on a forum that they operate.

I do want them to know that they can take comfort in the knowledge that their efforts to upset me have worked. I do have occasional sleepless nights, not because of the house sale, but wondering how humans can develop such a profound hatred. What upsets me even more is that it has caused my wife a great deal of anxiety, and she doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment. She’s not even a member of the Talk of The Villages.

So, when you are approached to join any other forum here in The Villages, be alert to what type of individuals you will be joining.

I fully understand that I initiated the original issue of the train noise and opened the door for further discussion. I didn't realize that it would be used to get even with my wife and me for trying to help run Talk of The Villages as a friendly place for everybody, not a select few.
One thing to consider... people with MS often do worse in heat/hotter climates. Good idea to discuss with your wifes neurologist.

Thumbs up

Chin up.

Chest out.

I know hav other people about you negatively hurts but looked around you. Look at all the friends you have on this board. I don’t know you well but by being on this board I can tell several things about you. You are a kind, considerate people. You care about people and their lives or you wouldn’t have worked to create this board. Think of all the people you’ve helped make the important decision about where to spend their retired years, whether it be in the Village, or someplace else. You should be proud of that. People like you are always going to have detractors. It is in their nature. The only way they can build themselves up is by ripping good people down. I know it’s difficult but rather than venting you anger at them, pity them, they will never have a life as full as yours.

Time heals all wounds.

Time wounds all heels.

I believe in karma and what you give is what you receive. You may not be there to see it but the day will come when those speaking ill of you will be spoken ill of.

Lone Traveller, words of wisdom. I am going to print this out and paste it on my wall. I believe in karma too and the day will come, that those who hurt, will be hurt too. Thank you for your insight and good sense. K.

Jan, I am heartbroken that you are having so much trouble with ignorant, sick people. You are a very special person and deserve nothing but kindness for all that you do and have done for us. You and Amity are in my prayers and I know that your house will sell and the "other" forum will fail miserably, as will the miserable people who are trying to hurt you. Take heart my friend, good always reaps rewards and evil always suffers for its misdeeds.
