Default Ideas? Converting a sun room to a media room

Hi, we are in the process of buying a home in the village of Collier. Very excited.😊 This will be a major downsize and my husband will be losing his basement media room. His man cave. Trying to keep him happy. I would like to convert the sunroom into a media room. He doesn’t want to have the tv and chairs at the entrance of the room and would prefer they be set back a bit in the room. Obviously the majority of the sunroom has windows, not allowing a tv to be hung. We have the Boxwood model and I’m hopeful for any suggestions and ideas. Pictures appreciated as well. Thanks for any help.

Depending on your definition of a Media Room, if you are going to watch movies and Television, the Sun Room is a poor location for this. You will need or want to have room darkening shades. Think of a Movie theatre. Light is your enemy, it creates glare on the screen and it will wash out your color experience. It really comes down to what you want in your Media Room. We have a Lanai we use as an extra room to watch TV when the main set is in use, but we really can't climate control the space currently and sound, let's just say I like my neighbors and I'd like to keep them happy to so I don't have the full experience out there. I used my living room where I can better control the light and have a full surround sound environment. It's not perfect but a great compromise.

Some people will suggest modernizing the sound by using a sound bar and sub woofer. I already had all the surround stuff so I opted to keep it but some of the new technology is great and greatly reduces the wires needed.

Lots of options but understand the compromises you may need to accept based on the space and environment you plan to use for this.

If you haven't contracted the house yet consider a 4-bedroom home like a Putnam, Woodside, or Ivy, there is also a model that has a bonus room on the second floor that has it's own HVAC system but I can't remember the name of that one.

There are other options for "mounting" the TV, these are usually a low piece of furniture with 1 or 2 posts that will support the TV. The furniture can house the surround sound, subwoofer and associated equipment.

Is this the floor plan? If so you have a decent size wall (lanai/master bedroom) to hang a tv on but you have a ton of glass not only outside but between lanai and house. I would ask him if bedroom 2 would suffice. Part of your sales pitch could be “ not far to the bathroom “

Can always hang the TV from the ceiling.
You will have a lot of work reducing the sunlight.

An option...........use one of the bedrooms.
Considering how much he will use it vs. visitors using the bedroom.
Close to bathroom.
Not giving up your lanai.

I'm using our 3rd bedroom for this purpose. If that's not an option for you, they make really nice Murphy beds nowadays with built in couches. Media room that converts to another guest room when needed. That could be a win win for both of you.
