The post shows legitimate concern for our fellow man or child but each of these posts comes off sounding like old, meddling, crabs trying trying to fix the world. Let it happen and let the chips fall where they will. This site is starting to to sound like Archie Bunker Night in TV. People have free will so let them use it and find out what the consequences are. Enjoy TV and "let live and let die". Sorry, just tired of reading complaints about everything.

Irish,

May I add an addendum?

The same folks comment on this over and over and over......

Venting is fine.... but if want to solve the problem come up with a way to fix it... hold a meeting, hand out fliers, etc etc.

Two things one people think these golf carts are toys they are not real and two could or would the police stop these people if they saw them because could this be child endangering. My wife saw some teens with rental carts in the parting lot near Toojays at LSL playing tag in the lot there today. They really do need to police it but how and where will the money come from. Maybe volinteers could be the answer.

At the end of the day some child will be seriously injured, the lawsuits will fly, and there will be more than enough outrage, finger pointing and blame to go around. Calls for more regulation and enforcement will be heard throughout the land and nothing will change.
Why you ask?
'Cause you can't fix stupid!
Not a complaint, just a statement of fact.

"let live and let die" is fine, however when someone does die there will be hell to pay and we all might have to buy that second car.

When you reach the point in life where you feel no obligation to speak out to protect the lives of innocent little children, you have, indeed, relinquished your social responsibility. You are unfairly labeling a bonafied social ill as "complaining." I would suggest that if you don't want to be a "meddling old crab" then you should remain silent. You can bask in the knowledge that you could have done something helpful but it "wasn't your job" to say or do anything. If on the other hand, you wish to join the chorus of individuals who still want the fight the good fight and shine a light on an ongoing dangerous practice in our community, then Talk of The Villages is the place to be.

"Live and Let Die" "Let them find out what the consequences are" How sad is it to feel that way. The lives of these precious little children are too valuable for us to turn our backs and "let the chips fall where they may."

Posting here on Talk of The Villages is a powerful way to steer the current of change in this community. It is the only unified voice the residents have. If we don't post it here, for thousands to read, then how will the word be spread? Don't ever underestimate the power of the "new" press.

TH,

I really see your point on this... However, to a degree, posting the same topic here over and over and over again is preaching to the choir.

TOTV was instrumental in the RDOG group getting a new dog park - and for those opposed to it to voice their concerns and have them considered. But they also took action. If this is your passion and you really want to affect change, posting may not be enough.

Talk Host - I will be quiet from now on but some of your personal issues have been posted here and to be perfectly honest, they sound like a petulant kid. This was a good site to get information a couple of years ago but it has become a political venting site and a place for whiners to spill their guts. Enjoy your "bully pulpit". I really don't need it.

I guess the shoe fit you a little too tight. Additionally, I don't see anything "political" about this topic.

Never become silent on an issue of such great importance. I have taken action, I have spent thousands of dollars and thousands of hours creating the loudest voice in The Villages. Remember, this isn't a private phone call, TOTV is a loudspeaker that continues to hammer important information until the decision makers hear it. The Villages authorities know about the problem of children driving carts on public roads. It is up to them to do something about it. If they don't take action, they will bear partial responsibility for the outcome. They are very quick to tell you to remove decorations from your yard to to move a trailer from the driveway, perhaps they can become equally as concerned about babies driving golf carts. I know they are concerned about any public image that may tarnish the "paradise" aura of The Villages, but some action has got to be taken.

Talk Host, I agree with every word you have written in your recent posts on this subject. It is a shame that people want to bad-mouth you for doing a good job. On many occasions I have wanted to post but have declined because of the "high volume posters" who always find some way of disagreeing with other posters, just to get their daily number of posts. It even looks as if some of your critics don't even reside here in TV. How can they possibly have a knowledgeable opinion of what is good and what is bad for residents of TV. Keep up the good work.

TH,

I by no means disagree - and I acknowledged that this forum can be a powerful voice for change. I also know that you have devoted countless hours making it a success. Additionally, I understand that this is a business enterprise for you - so encouraging dialogue is important to the continued success of TOTV.

However, posts here alone will not solve the golf cart problem. If your pen can convince posters of the need for action, that is all to the good. But if you are serious about solving an issue you think is vitally important, it seems more action is required. Else, there would be no need for discussion as the problem would be solved.

Unfortunately these are probably the same "idiot Grandparents" that allowed their young grandchildren to stand on the fence and feed the buffalo, resulting in The villages removing the Buffalo from TV.

I fear that when enough tragic accidents occur from kids driving golf carts recklessly ,The same scenerio may occur, forcing us to become a golfcartless community.

I was coming down Canal Street about a month ago behind a cart with a granddad in the driver's seat and a boy in the passenger seat...and then I noticed the granddad had both arms draped on the seat back and the kid was steering from the passenger side. I hung back, luckily, 'cause the cart made an abrupt U-turn (no signal, no looking). So, not only can you not fix stupid...it seems to be hereditary, too!
