Default Indoor Plumbing and Gas line "Insurance".

Sometime ago I received a pamphlet in the mail offering a service that would make covered repairs for a flat fee of $30.00. At the time I was perfectly capable of making my own repairs so I just threw the pamphlet out along with the many daily offers we receive each day. My situation has taken a sudden turn and I am no longer able to make those sort of repairs.

Anyone recall receiving such an offer? I would now like to consider such plan but don't know where to start other than call upon TOTV's membership in hopes of finding someone familiar with the offer.

I seem to remember the originator was one of our utilities. (Gas company maybe?)

Before you go that route total up the cost of buying insurance for all the things that could go wrong. Then total up the times you have done the repair. Then compare to the cost of calling a service man when you need them.

Just found my letter from TECO on this subject. Sorry but it is from 2013. I'm sure there is something newer out there.

Called "Plumbing Protect" 1-855-2562473. Best plan (plumbing and gas) $9.95 a month and a service call costs you $30.00

Just (inside gas line) $5.99 a month- service call no charge.

So....for $120.00 a year you can pay $30.00 a service call. I'm here over 10 years and never a had a problem. Also how much wear and tear on the "inside gas lines?" THESE ARE 2013 PRICES TOO! 2015 or 2016 ???? IMHO - NOT A GOOD DEAL.

Thanks, this is just what I was looking for. Now I can make a decision. I am what you might call an "insurance guy". The peace of mind factor enters into my decision making as well as my inability to no longer make repairs. It would not be practical based on my experience in the last 14 years but who knows what the future has in store for me.

Since finding someone after something breaks might be a problem, I would make up a list of two contractors for each problem you might have. Should be able to search the form for suggestions.

For your kitchen appliances, the manual that comes with it may have an 800 number you call and they will then arrange with a local repair service that is approved to fix the appliance.

If you are not good at finding notes I would tape to the side of the refrigerator.
Good luck.
