Having the "right of way" doesn't mean you will always be right, in all circumstances, it is the concept that when you are in control of a machine , much faster, heavier, it is inherently more dangerous if not properly controlled ,it is your responsibility to exercise more care because a lapes on your part could result in greater damage, that is the rationale of pedestrian right of way. Every year many pedestrians are killed due to thoughtless action on their part by driver who are blameless, but not always . The day will come when you will need some sort of license to operate a golf cart, the growing number of people who can not be trusted with an automobile driving golf carts will at some point cause enough problems will make this necessary.

Rule number One. Self preservation.
Rule number two. Argue who was right.
Rule number three. I was.

I have been thinking the same thing. If anyone needed a reminder about what happens when one's frontal lobe starts to decline and one says things they should not, this is a great example.

I always give carts a wide berth when possible if I am in a car and the same for pedestrians. You just never know what they might unexpectedly do and I would hate to injure anyone even if it was their own fault. Use some common sense out there folks. Most cart drivers think they have the right of way but they do not!

I also never go over the center line when driving an automobile. That is dangerous. I will never understand why drivers move to the left of the center line when a golf cart is coming up on their right in the MMP. There is room for both of you unless you are driving a huge truck with a wide load.
Pedestrians always have right of way on MMPs. Maybe walkers should carry a small can of roofing nails, to help educate you to the fact that pedestrians always have the right of way on the MMPs.

i'm guilty of crossing over the yellow line when available. my greatest fear is my car is too large and too close to the cart lanes along morse heading to spanish springs, & i may sideswipe somebody . if there's oncoming with cart next to me, i just slow down a bit & wait for oncoming to pass me before i pass the cart safely.

Also for all the smart "arses" that claim "their right-of-way", remember that there are differing opinions as expressed in this thread. Those who claim their right-of-way better be right.

Several posters claiming their cart right-of-way may be posting sarcastically, but if so, you should apologize for doing so on such an issue.

Back to the OPs original thought, those cart drivers who safely give pedestrians the extra clearance should be commended. Who knows when a person may trip, faint and fall? Better drivers will be courteous.

Well, I agree with you. However, those same people, fainting etc (my neighbor for one) could be driving the cart, and after happy hour even the healthy might have poor judgement. I think it is silly to see if they’re going to hit you or not.

This entire "discussion" has long since begun resembling sounding brass and tinkling cymbals. No one here is going to intentionally hit a walker with a golf cart, nor is carelessness or selfishness limited or governed by gender. And piling on because some few posters might question the choice of words of another poster is, to say the least, juvenile. We're all adults here.

Right?

From your description, one could only take that to mean that all men and all women behave in gender-specific ways. There have been posts by each gender that suggest that you are wrong.

Recommendation: The two of you go out with clipboards and pencils. Each of you (independently, to see how accurate the measurements are) tally the number of men and women separately as well as the behavior. It would be 4 cells, but undoubtedly there would be an edge case for how much room was ceded and maybe some gender uncertainty. Report each of your unedited tallies. Expect to measure at least 400 drivers to understand the distribution of driver genders. Better, get at least 400 of each.

Once you have the facts, then we can measure the validity of your hypothesis (what you called a phenomenon).
I would be curious to know the results of such a test. It is POSSIBLE that one gender would differ from the other for such a test.

Yes, that would be a typical Villages problem. And it could be easily stopped with enough Police handing out enough tickets.
