Default Invitation to Poker Run

I would like to extend a invitation to all members of TOTV to join The Villages Parrot Heads for their 4th annual Poker Run. The event will take place March 15, 2008 1:00pm til 4:00pm. Then food, entertainment and basket raffle 3:00pm til 6:00pm. Tickets are $ 5.00 pp and you get a chance to win $100.00 also includes hot dog and soda. The basket are made up by the members donations and raffled off. The proceeds will go St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital and Relay for Life. Maybe some of TOTV members might want to make a basket with TOTV memorabilia. I will be at Laurel Manor rec center Tue. 2/26/08 10:00am-12:00 noon selling tickets and recieving basket donations. We will also be on the squares selling tickets as follows Lake Sumter Landing March 4 and 11, and Spanish Springs March 5 and 12. from 5 to 9pm. Tickets are also available at El Santiago Restaurant. More info on page C7 in Mon. 2/25 edition of Daily Sun. E-MAIL me for personal service. "It's a fund raiser but it's also a fun raiser. We have fun."
Thanks, Rich P.

ok, what the heck, I will ask. I have heard of a poker run, but never been involved. Could you please explain what the heck a Poker run is and how it works?

Packer Fan,
A poker run is a fun event where you go station to station and draw a poker card. The poker card you draw is recorded on a official tally sheet. You go to 5 different stations to obtain a poker hand. Normally you travel to the stations (rec. areas) by golf cart or by auto. The Parrot Heads run starts and ends at the Polo Field. Thats when the fun starts. While the judges are sorting the sheets to find the best poker hand, you will be entertained by Joel (Jimmy Buffet tunes and oldies) have a hot dog & soda and particapate in the raffles and 50/50 drawings. First prize for the best poker hand will be $100.00. This is our clubs largest "fund raiser and fun raiser". Hope you can participate. Open to everyone.

How many decks of cards do you use? Seems like you would need at least one for each of the 5 stations and maybe even more depending on how many people are doing this? :dontknow:

If this poker run is done the way all the ones that I have attended, there would only be a need for 5 decks of cards. At each station a person picks a card, that is recorded. Then the card goes back into the deck and the deck is shuffled and the next person picks a card. When everyone has visited the five stations all hands a compared and the highest winning hand is announced. Most of my poker runs have been on motorcycles and there is a questionnaire at the end to see if you have observed your surroundings as you rode from station to station. The person who gets the most questions correct receives a prize.

rs is right, we use 2 decks to speed the process. A card is picked, recorded then goes back into the deck for the next persons to pick. When you have 650 participants divided by 5, you can end up with a lot of people at any given station. It is not a race so the pace is different for each couple. Sometimes there is a back up but it moves smoothly. The run takes aprox. a hour and a half because of the how the stations are spaced.

I'm so confused! I bought tickets for a "Relay for Life" poker run. The date on them is March 20th. I was thinking I was buying them for the Parrot Head one. Does anyone know who is sponsoring this one??

The Wisconsin Club(s) is sponsoring a Poker Run on March 20, 2008 which benefits Relay For Life. The tickets are pink. Is that what you have?

Yes, mine are pink. How silly. I was thinking of the Parrot Head one when someone said they were selling tickets.....I'm sure this one will be fine, too. After all, it's for charity!

I would like to thank anyone who attended the Parrot Heads Poker Run Sat. 3/15/08. We had a great turnout, we sold 660 tickets and had over $ 4000 left after expenses. This will all be donated to charity. If anyone thinks I or any Parrot Head profit from this they are mistaken. My wife and myself have over 500 hrs invested over a 3 month period. We have taken trips to ST. Pete, Ocala and Leesburg for supplies, all at our expense. We do not get reimbursed nor do we ask to be reimbursed. We do it for the clubs benefit and the charities we support. We had 90 members volunteer their time and we needed every one of them. So when someone says we are just a drinking club ask one of these volunteers when do they get a chance drink. You might not like the answer. I am sure this goes for any club in the Villages. We get our satisfaction at the end of the day and the event was a success.
THANK YOU AGAIN!
