The last few days while walking my dog past one particular storm drain near my home, a barking sound emanated from the storm drain. It is not a high pitched bark but rather a deeper sounding bark and sounds like a dog. It only barks when we walk past the drain. Today it also happened from the drain across the street from it, obviously because they probably are connected. In thinking back, I recall a few months ago on a cold morning, my neighbor and I were walking our dogs past the same drain when we suddenly heard loud barking which lasted several minutes and seemed to have an echoing sound. Initially we thought it was a dog inside a neighboring garage but then we walked over to the storm drain and it was emanating from the drain. This drain is on a Pennecamp street which is adjacent to a golf course and a couple of large retention ponds so I am guessing that perhaps the storm drains empty into those ponds and maybe a fox came into the drain system at some point and has nested there. Does that sound logical? My wife was thinking it was a lost dog and we should call someone, but I doubt a dog would survive several weeks in a storm drain. Now I will sit back and await all the bigfoot comments to begin, but I would appreciate some serious opinions as well.

How is this related to the OP's question?

it's more likely a gator in the drain than a dog and the frog is even more likely...larger the frog, the deeper the bark.

PLEASE call Community Watch, you have nothing to lose. Yes a dog can live a long time if it has water. See the story below.

I agree with Duffysmom about calling community watch. Let them investigate and if it is a frog, well, at least you know you did what was right and you can sleep better at night.
I think I have one of those barking frogs that gets into my gutters when it rains and the sound of the bark is so loud because of the echo. It drives me and my dogs nuts (well, nuttier....). That's what I would do and please keep us posted.

Please report it to someone. If it's a pup, it needs help. If it's another type of wilder creature, so be it.

this has a clickable link to a larger frog. It sounds very regular in intervals with a pause and repeat rhythm compared to a dog bark. You may have heard the official state amphibian...the barking tree frog... |

Notify Community Watch of the dog barking in the drain and location.

And please keep those of us who adore "the pooping machines" of the outcome. Can't bare to think of a dog stuck in a drain.

Listened to that link to the frog sound and to me it sounded like the horn on an old tin lizzie. But that's only my opinion
