It's understood that you can't afford to shop at Publix. Some people shop at Macy's, some people shop at KMart, Shopko, etc. The point that you are missing is some people don't blow money on booze, cigarettes, pickleball equipment, gambling and any other elective entertainment and they are comfortable with one stop shopping at Publix with no time or gas wasted. That's why we have a wonderful array of choices for everyone and we don't all have to fit in the same box.

(SMILE) if I can’t afford to shop at Publix then less than 10% of the US population can… lol… but I do like to get value for my money. If I want to give to a charity I want to select which one, myself.

I can’t help wondering how many people spend $4000 on gas per year driving to a grocery store other than Publix? I don’t because the Walmart is practically next door to the Publix where I go. But with home delivery one can avoid gas costs completely anywhere.

In my opinion, Publix can charge whatever they want, but our community of seniors, some from far away places, need to be aware of what their options are.

Their saving their nickels, they go to Walmart, Aldi and Winn Dixie. None of them are great so you have to float from store to store to get exactly what you need, time and money. We're fortunate in that we can still donate to charities after shopping at Publix's very clean, nicely stocked, great fruits and veggies, the deli department and great customer service.

If the discussion is now about spending power, can we transitiion to Jewelry Stores or Travel Agents, instead of mundane grocery stores?

Publix must be doing something right. This will be their eleventh store in The Villages area. More than any other grocery chain.

They have a business model, that suits the demographic.

They're one of the most successful grocery chains in the USA and consistently make Fortune's Top 100 companies to work for ... & will have 2025 revenue of over $60B. They know what they're doing.

Yes, I agree with that, Publix KNOWS what it is doing, but it is time for the people living in The Villager to know it too. You know what they say, knowledge never hurts, it’s what you don’t know….

I had a bank up north for years, it was always the most successful one on the stock exchange, year after year. I was a loyal client for a decade. Then I looked at all the charges on my accounts… needless to say, I changed banks, now some of that money stays in MY accounts.

Publix is not THAT bad, if you have to, it’s nice to have one around.

FYI,
Publix operates 1,428 store locations across the Southeast. As of June 2025, Publix employs about 260,000 people. Publix is the largest employee-owned company in the United States.

Apparently, a lot of people eat most of their meals in restaurants. Shopping at Publix is way cheaper, and the food quality is better. I have greatly decreased my business in restaurants primarily because of the mediocre food and service.

Not having to shop is a huge plus. Publix at Magnolia is such a zoo!
Amazing the shoppers that I see in Publix. They pay full price for items that are on bogo frequently. Sometimes they buy 3 when the sale is BOGO. Whoop there it is!

Our steak is cut at 2”, 8oz. We split one every other week. Our salmon ships from Alaska overnight from first run. Already portion cut, and vacuum individually for sous vide, each different herbs. Smoked salmon comes about 8 weeks later. Smoking starts right at the water. Our oldest has great friends living in Alaska. Have to have proper NY bagels to do it justice.

Not a fan fresh water fish, even though we grew up on 6 lakes. COD is the only other fish, most of our meals are fresh soups, homemade stock, sometimes with a side of grilled vegetables. Our chicken is split, only weighs 3 pounds (sous vide) then quick torch) and still have lots to make soup, and sandwiches. Too bad not a fan of sous vide, any mid to high end restaurants have giant units in their kitchen. Today was sous vide steak rare, kale salad with apples, and tiramisu in the sous vide for dessert.
Wow we are open to adoption, very impressed.

My guess it’s convenient outing, one stop shopping, because you buy meat, fish, bakery and produce solely at Publix, and that’s where you gage better quality.

As far as think some are jealous of choice of shopping at Publix grocery…

To sit at a meal, grass fed meat, vegetables from garden, local eggs, that would make me jealous, if I didn’t have it on my table.
Rarely do we buy protein, produce, in grocery, because we have access to the farm. We make our bread, pastries and desserts. I buy stone ground grits and flour at the mill.
Didn’t grow up with processed food, don’t tolerate nitrates, phosphates. So to be jealous of food that isn’t farm to table, coming from Publix or any grocery is

I admit occasionally I buy Kevin’s, every grocery including Sprouts, in TV is $5-7 dollars less than Publix, for the same container. Publix choice of unprocessed and Kosher is very limited, probably due to customer base.
Lucky for you. No farm or mill here buddy.

You really don’t understand the concept. It’s ok most have no idea how many commercial restaurants use them. Plus home chefs.
There is no boiling, but a constant temp. If one has ever eaten in a high end restaurant you will find Sous vide. How to you think they plate 40 steaks from rare to well in 5 minutes. All perfectly cooked. Or 30 eggs Benedict with perfect poached eggs.

Until you have the pleasure to be in high end restaurant kitchen, you would never know sous vide exists. Even low end restaurants like Cheesecake Factory uses them, to hold sauces that other wise would break.

I have 8 for dinner, with 2” steaks 5 rare, 4 mid rare, one medium. Every steak hit the 450 degree pan in 45 seconds all sitting at the table with a perfect seared steak
