If you are receiving something from the Post Office (not junk) or a package from Federal Express or UPS you most likely ordered it, bought it, getting billed for it or asked for it. So tacitly you have asked them to come to your door.

I'm not very tolerant of folks pushing their ideology on me especially when that ideology is based neither in science nor historical fact. Faith is great. It lets people exceed their self-imposed limitations..but, the intellectual bottom line is the faith argument is "this is the truth because I believe it's the truth though I can't prove it." I'm not saying you are wrong - but, it is a poor substitute for more measurable observations.
Thank you so much. I totally agree. Faith is great but we all seem to follow a different road. Which one is right? We won't know until we are dead. John Lennon told his wife that if he would ever die-

before that assho** shot him dead-

He would come back- if he could- and Let her know that he was okay-

Poor guy never did. So believe what you may. hell, heaven, reincarnation, whatever-

truth is- we won't know til we are dead-

then it's too late.

Just sayin'!!

Here in Florida with all the home Invasions- we do NOT open the door to strangers. I don't care what you look like- you are not coming in. If I open the door- I am inviting crime-

Don't do it-

You will be very sorry.

If I want info on different religions- I will Google it!

Thank you

Have there been a lot of "home invasions" in The Villages??

However, we saw a heck of a lot of workers, probably most just trying to do their daily jobs.........who looked like aliens (not the outer space type).

We've read that it's often the service people or cleaning people that are allowed entry to the property , that "might be tempted"....

We know our landscapers up here and our plumbers, carpenters, etc. as they all were born and raised in this town, but there is another element moving into our state to collect welfare.

Also, people on drugs don't care whose home they invade.
People who need money for drugs, ditto.

Anyone can drive through TV......as we've seen all the work trucks using the roads to get to the other side.........

Many times, the elderly are perceived as easy targets.

Hopefully, it will NEVER EVER HAPPEN........but BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.

We live in a safe state....probably one of the safest...and yet we all know not to let any strangers in.......times have changed, sadly.

Up here it's mostly small time thieves wanting to steal home safes and jewelry to re sell for scrap.........or lots of thieves are stealing copper wire right from homes.....plumbing parts, etc. They know the seasonal homes and sometimes are breaking into non seasonal homes when the owners are away at work or school.............it is scary but times are hard and people need $$$$$$$$$$$

43 years ago we thought nothing of leaving our doors open and the keys in our cars..........not any more. Most Vermonters never locked their doors. Those times have changed, unfortunately.

Our police are on the ball up here and give out regular warnings on what to look for. I can honestly say that our daily newspaper prints all the news, good and bad.
People need to be aware..........and they sure let us know. Glad my kids are grown up and on their own, with families of their own. Society has changed.

Again, we live in an extremely safe town and state, compared to the rest of the U.S..........but none of us have our heads in the sand.
They would print it. I get the paper every day here and the Police blotter is printed.

We live in an extremely safe town here. There are those who do not like the Sun for reasons I suspect are political...And they are very vocal on this forum.

That does not mean we should drop our guard but this place is far safer than most places in the U.S. And The Sun is a decent paper. But no place is completely safe. This is every bit as safe as the town we left in Ohio. There are people who will be overly fearful no matter how safe their surroundings are... because of a million reasons.

None of us would go out of our way to be rude to a "church person".
I'm sure we are all raised just fine.

The "authorities" have better things to do than respond to disgruntled folks having their doorbells constantly rung.

What I've said is that we live in a pretty big house and are not always by our front door........we could be on any of the three levels ....or we could be out on the back screened in porch or on the deck or in the backyard.
Every time the doorbell rings to an "uninvited guest" is a hassle as you get older. We don't run as fast as we used to.

I think this is boiling down to who likes to go around and ring people's doorbells to who prefers their uninterrupted privacy.........and the J.W. we get up here are a bit offputting........maybe not as nice as the ones you get at your place in TV.

Also, if you didn't answer the door, how would you know it wasn't someone you might like to see????

We're talking "uninvited annoying solicitors"..............soliciting something we are not interested in.

Just last night we were discussing how THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR we haven't got any local candidates coming to our door on Sunday afternoons...........strange but true. They came for years, handing out fliers or hanging them on front doors........

Also, as this is an "aging neighborhood now".........with all the little ones grown up and moved away..........we don't even get Girl Scouts selling their cookies anymore..........nor the little baseball players selling their raffle tickets...............we always enjoyed them..................that is a big difference from J.W.
I also live in an "aging neighborhood" and do resent when the doorbell rings and interrupts me-it's not for my kids cause they either live elsewhere or admit/meet friends via cell phone contacts. I used to screen callers through an intercom, but that isn't working(another thing I need to fix before putting the house on the market). Anyway, I do get annoyed, but they are usually so polite that I respond in the same manner by saying thanks, but no thanks.

Default Here's a link to the official English JW website.

Jehovah?s Witnesses?Official Website: jw.org

Cannot say I have been ever really interested in what visiting JW missionaries have to say. Above is a link that spells out their believes according to them.

I might have opened the door to missionaries if one of them were an attractive woman. Usually in Palm Harbor it was two 20 something men who would come to the door. And, you could here them coming from a few houses down as the neighbor's dogs would start barking.

I agree wholeheartedly. My wife is always wanting to stop in on our friends and neighbors and I tell her we need to call first. I actually take this philosophy one step further, in that I will not answer the phone unless I know someone is going to call me. My friends and neighbors all know this and don't call unless they stop over to let me know in advance.

Sounds like a Catch-22 to me. People can't stop by if they don't call first, but you won't answer anyone's call unless they stopped by first to let you know they would call....?
