OK - joking aside....religious/philosophical outlooks are exceedingly personal. You want to leave a brochure with information - fine. You knock on my door and expect me to engage you in debate - no matter how "well meaning" you are, expect to be called out for engaging in arrogant colonialism. I'm not very tolerant of folks pushing their ideology on me especially when that ideology is based neither in science nor historical fact. Faith is great. It lets people exceed their self-imposed limitations..but, the intellectual bottom line is the faith argument is "this is the truth because I believe it's the truth though I can't prove it." I'm not saying you are wrong - but, it is a poor substitute for more measurable observations.

I'm not a fan of door-to-door peddling of anything. The Jehovah's Witness calls (the calls, not the persons) are a "nuisance" I'd say, and I don't answer the door to them nor anybody else who shows up at an inopportune time.

While I don't like some of the religious doctrines they want to deliver, it's a bit disturbing here to see them talked about as if they were criminals or something.

A lot worse things/people could show up at the door.

When I told them I was not interested the first time, the older man would not take no for an answer and that is when I shut the door. I was not rude just not interested in what they had to say

Wow, it seems that you have a lot more aggressive JW's down here!

I've never been rude nor have they. I just say 'no thanks' and they walk away.

Time to close thread before it gets out of hand?

Just my 2 c.
I hope so.

I don't answer a knock on my door or the doorbell ringing unless I'm expecting someone. If someone rings or knocks and I don't know or expect that they were coming over it means they are trying to sell me something. All the neighbors know my policy on this so they always call in advance. Just because someone decides to come to my door doesn't mean I need to answer

As a friendly neighbor who lives in a very friendly neighborhood - If I had to call first before knocking on your door I don't think I'd be calling very much. Just saying.

I didn't say anything was ignorant about your statement. Did you forget you wrote in post # 30:

"Some of the ignorance in these replies is just astounding. Enough! "

Your words not mine.

OK, let's get back on topic about JW doing door-to-door visits.

What more is there to say - some people answer and politely tell them to go away, some choose not answer at all, and some don't want anyone knocking on their door uninvited or unexpected. That pretty much wraps it up - don't think it matters if it's a JV or anyone else selling or whatever.

Let's treat religion like politics. Taboo.

I couldn't agree more. They're are JW here in the villages. There is a Kingdom Hall just outside TV. They are all good people.

Whether or not TV is a "gated" community (it's not) really is not relevant. Most people no matter where they live are not interested in people knocking on their doors whether it's to talk about God, Politics or AmWay. The mailman, Federal Express & UPS tend to be another matter, but in the most general sense you have asked them to come to your door no matter where you live.

I have asked them to come to my door? No I haven't where do you come up with that? What ever you've been smoking I want some.
