As a Cafeteria Catholic I'm a bit intrigued by the level of commitment these people have.
Jehovah is their website. It's really wonderfully informative.

My college room mate had the best solution to door-to-door types of all flavors. We lived in an apartment complex that was 95% students. He would answer the door naked except for his hat. Asked him once why he wore the hat - he said that if you're naked people may think you had just gotten out of the shower and forgotten the towel. But if you have a hat on, they know that you are crazy.

Funny thing is that after a couple weeks, word apparently got around and we weren't bothered by *any* door to door people the rest of the time we lived there.

Rick is retired from a *serious* government job and is a college professor now. And we still enjoy pulling pranks on each other.

I KNOW in my heart that is what he meant. He is a caring, good and fair man.

I don't think I want to read all that has been said.

Jehovah's Witnesses are easy to spot. They are usually dressed for church, when the rest of us now go to church in our casuals...Either answer the door and accept the literature and thank them or don't answer the door. They aren't there to hurt you. They are doing what they think is right.

It will only take a moment one way or another.

I believe it is legal. There are posted signs that say no soliciting in The Villages, but there is no legal authority behind that. It has been previously posted here that Sumter County does not prohibit door to door sales.

The signs have no legal authority. They are kind of make believe signs like the ones throughout the town squares.

Like the ones on dump trucks that say they are not responsible for your broken windshield.

Community Watch should chase them out of here. Religious intolerance - please - we probably have more religious diversity in here than we could know what to do with. Someone even goes by the name of "redwitch".
Yup, and when they come knocking at my door, I invite them to my coven meeting on Friday night (new sacrifices always appreciated). Gets rid of 'em every time.

But it's only "witch" cause my daughter can't type -- she gave me this name.

Hope she didn't typo a "w" instead of a "b".

Well, she was a teen and I was her mom (and a relatively strict one at that), so of course it was a B

Well, out of curiosity I read all 147 posts.

It seems simple. Like it or not it is apparently legal for religious groups to go door to door in The Villages. No matter how much one may find it objectionable, ranting about it doesn't change anything.

Once that was established, this thread should have been over...............

But a separate theme emerged regarding the theology and behavior of the JWs and the Mormons.

I have relatives who are JWs and very, very close friends who are Mormons. In both cases they are some of the gentlest, finest and most ethical people I know. In both cases I am convinced that their theology is entirely wrong, but I'm sure no one is up for a theological discussion.

If representatives of either group should come to my door I will simply politely turn them away. I think I can manage that with a minimum of inconvenience.

There have been cases in some parts of the country (not the villages as far as I know) of people posing as JW and Mormons and people working for a charity who are in fact casing neighborhoods to see which houses are unoccupied. I never answer the door, just turn on and off the lights on the porch and tell whomever is there to go away.

My daughter used to live in Brooklyn where JW has its world headquarters. You would see the young JWs-in-training in their dark slacks and white shirts on the streets. But as far as I know they did not go around Brooklyn ringing doorbells.
