There are a lot of conflicts re: golf cart speed.
The golf carts are actually designed to do 15 mph which is why they only have brakes on the rear wheels. Unless the law has been changed any golf cart that does over 20mph must have plates and insurance. The new 2017 yamaha comes factory set up to do 24 mph. Last year when we had our 2015 yamaha serviced they insisted we sign a form oking that if our cart was doing over 20 they would turn it back to 20. I was surprised-this year they asked us if we wanted it set at 22.5 or 24. ARE WE IN SUCH A SUCH TO RELAX?????? |

If you are caught doing more than 19.9--you are guilty of the following:
1)speeding 2) having an unregistered vehicle 3)having an uninsured vehicle 4)operating a vehicle with out proper equipment on the road 5) and you better have a valid driver's license And you must get the cart certified that its max speed is 19.9 could add up to mucho $$$ |

Considering this and the level of enforcement of the 19.9 speed limit, the vast majority of the owners of 20+mph carts...which I would wager is the majority of carts in TV...have little reason for concern. I'd say you should have about as much concern as if you drive your car a few mph over the speed limit on the interstate. Yeah, you're a law breaker. But few, including law enforcement, consider you criminals. |

Someone needs to explain to me what the problem is .Why can't people pass others without getting cursed at? Why is it that the person blocking the faster traffic from flowing not the problem? Driving fast is a choice one makes . No one except the police should be the ones telling them they're wrong. The other day I was passing someone on Pinellas pl in the village of Pinellas and some guy was cussing me out . I wasn't affecting anything he was doing as he was in the diamond lane and I was in the middle of the road passing him . Am I supposed to stay behind him even if he's going slower then I'm capable of going? Folks if I choose to drive fast and if I get caught that's my problem. Before anyone says I'm going to cause an accident I want you to know I would never pass anyone without the proper distance needed to do so.

Always slow down at a turn, and accelerate on the end of a curve. And right turns, always slow to safe ratio based on your skill (slower the better and have turn signal on) and turn. Turning Left, always watch on coming and remember you do not have to wait until the line ends to merge as you can get in left lane at any time you feel there is a hazard.
Seat belts are not needed. Those with older carts have the molded plastic sides (that is dangerous). Upgrade your seats to have a fold down arm rest. And I to hope she is okay. |

This thread began with the reporting of a serious accident. I have had this woman on my mind since I read the post. A LOT of blood coming from her ear means she is fighting hard to live or to be the same person she was before the accident.
I also know DBussone enough to know that he hasn't put this down and it is causing him worry and sadness. An accident means that something occurred that wasn't expected or planned and because of no sides on all vehicles that are golf carts may be something that could occur to all people who drive them. Even if you are not ejected, your body held in place inside could be hit or swerve into something immobile. This is about a human just like all of us due to no fault of her own is in a dire situation. I am saddened and angered that this discussion has changed into someone calling someone else a jerk for driving the speed limit. We all are who we are. Patience IS still a virtue. Regional attitudes on passing are obvious. Just as attitudes about stopping at stop signs. I feel very sad for the woman injured and grateful and sad for the people who stopped and continue to care about her.

As in most threads, the original topic often morphs into tangential observations/comments.
Such as posts 5, 7, 9, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25...in this thread alone. Regardless, those who become irate because they are being passed by another cart and those who tool along in the left lane (even if at the speed limit) while other vehicles pile up behind them...ARE jerks. ![]() And as I stated in Post #10...here's hoping that the lady will be OK. ![]() |

I think that some people move here with completely different driving rules in their heads from others. Most people who live here are rule oriented, pay off their credit card bills every month, are conservative in their political views and own their homes outright. Most people who live here are patriotic, believe in God, although they may not go to church, are respectful of others and generally happy. Most people who live here started out with a lot less than they have now and take really good care of what they have. Most people are kind and considerate of others. Most people who live here rarely call other people jerks.
